ITY: CM extends Rangers’ powers for 90 days in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday extended Rangers’ special powers for 90 days in Karachi. The Rangers earlier extended powers will end tomorrow, Jan 10, 2018.

Sources at Chief Minister’s House informed PPI that the Sindh chief minister had approved a summary sent from Sindh home department seeking extension in the special powers granted to the paramilitary force.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that Rangers was performing good job with Sindh police in conducting targeted operation and maintaining law and order situation. The peace of Karachi is the peace of the country, the chief minister added.

Under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997, Rangers can take independent actions against criminals and suspected terrorists within Karachi division for 90 days.
