Journalists demand arrest of KPC intruders

KARACHI:A large number of journalists on Friday took out a rally from Karachi Press Club (KPC) and staged a sit-in outside Sindh Governor House against armed plainclothes who had barged into KPC last night.

The journalists first held a meeting in KPC and demanded the investigation into the matter.

KPC President Ahmed Khan Malik said that it was attack on freedom of Press and freedom of expression, adding such mal practice would not be tolerated at any cost.

He demanded from Sindh government and federal government to probe into the matter and take legal action against the intruders.

The rally was led by KPC president Ahmed Khan Malik, Secretary Maqsood Yousfi, joint secretary Naimat Khan and governing body members including Shams Keerio, Saeed Sarbazi and Naeem Sahutra.

The journalists carrying banners and placards chanted slogans against attack on freedom of Press. The rally was also participated by human rights activists and leaders of the political parties.

Addressing the sit-in, Maqsood Yousfi said that it was the first time that the personnel of law enforcement agencies barged into the KPC. He said neither in the martial law of General Zia nor in the dictatorship of Parvez Musharraf an incident like this was occurred.

Saeed Sarbazi recalled that Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD) was initiated in KPC against the dictatorship.

The journalists stressed early arrest of those involved in the incident and demanded from government to dismiss those personnel.

However, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Law and Anti-Corruption, Murtaza Wahab reached the governor house and assured the journalists that they are investigating the incident and the CM would form investigation committee in this regard.
