JPMC starts building 12-storey Jinnah Institute for Cancer Diseases

KARACHI:To provide state of the art cancer care treatment facilities, Jinnah PostgraduateMedical Centre (JPMC) has started construction of a 12-storey Jinnah Institute for Cancer Diseases, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

An administrative official at JPMC told PPI that the Jinnah Institute for Cancer Diseases was being constructed at JPMC with the financial assistance of Sindh government and Patient Aid Foundation, a non-governmental organization. He said about six cyber-knife machines and 18 therapy units would be established in the Institute, while 1500 cancer patients would be provided treatment facilities and approximately 700 radiotherapies would be performed every day at the Institute.

The Institute is being established at the cost of Rs 15 billion. Initially, Rs 6 billion has been provided by Sindh government and Patients Aid Foundation for this project, the official said. The official said: “This Institute will be considered as the 10th largest cancer care institute in the world. Safe radiation facilities, including radiotherapy, radiosurgery and other advanced treatment facilities, will be available under one-roof at the Institute.”

He further informed that the second cyber-knife machine had also been purchased with the financial assistance from Patients Aid Foundation and Sindh government, while a bunker had already been constructed for the installation of the new cyber-knife machine.
