Karachi Fire Brigade to get 325-feet snorkel in March 2018’

KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) Fire Brigade will get 325-feet snorkel of worth Rs 499 million in March this year as a new year gift from the Sindh government for up-gradation of its system.

This was said by Sindh local government project director Niaz Soomro while talking to media at his office on Tuesday. He said that the long snorkel was the need of hour as Karachi was growing vertically and for this purpose the current tenders and snorkels were unable to carryout extinguishes work at high rise buildings.

“The fire brigade is a very important department and hectic efforts are being made under the leadership of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to bring at par with international standard. The 305-feet long snorkel has been included in Annual Development Plan (ADP) for 2017-18,” Soomro added.

The project director said that right now, Lahore was the only city to have such big snorkel and the country’s economic hub (Karachi) would be the second city to have the same. However, he stressed the need that more big snorkels were needed in a city like Karachi to save the human lives and property.
