KARACHI: More than 200 more people were affected as result of toxic gas inhalation in Keamari and its adjoining areas in last 24 hours and so far up to 550 people have fallen ill due to this gas in last three days while 14 people have died.
Ziauddin Hospital registered 146 more patients last night and received more than 300 patients in three days while nine deaths were reported in this health facility.
The Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) has treated 80 patients in Accident and Emergency Department in result of toxic gas inhalation since 17 February 2020 to date.
At least 48 patients were brought Emergency Department of Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) in last three days and out of them three are still under treatment while majority of patients is recovered and discharged from the hospital.
Keamari and its surrounding including Jackson, Railway Colony, Majeed Colony, Shireen Jinnah Colony and Sikanderabad are badly affected due toxic gas leakage. ENT Specialist and Vice Chancellor Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) Prof Dr Tariq Rafi and other experts said that just soybean dust allergy cannot cause death and it needs proper investigation into Keamari incident.
He explained that people may face some complications like allergy, nasal allergy, asthma and other symptoms after exposure to soybean dust allergy but it cannot cause instant death.
