Larkana police arrest swindler

LARKANA: Market police Larkana have claimed here on Monday to have arrested a thug who used to fraudulently withdraw cash from ATM machines of different bank branches in different cities of rural Sindh.

Police said the swindler has so far withdrawn an amount of Rs 12 million from different ATM machines.

He was identified as Anees Abro, resident of Nim Muhalla of Shikarpur.

Station House Officer (SHO) Sartaj Jagirani of Market police told newsmen that Abro withdrew Rs2.5 million from various bank branches of Larkana alone by cheating illiterate people.

SHO claimed that modus operandi of Abro was to change the ATM cards of those people who were unable to use the ATM cards and withdraw cash from them.

He said that the cheater has confessed that he used same trick in other cities as well, including Sukkur, Khairpur, Dadu, Kandhkot, Kashmore. He has so far deprived n people of over 12 million rupees.

The SHO said that they have obtained CCTV footages of the changing ATM cards by the criminal and have also registered a case against him. He said that Abro was busy in withdrawing cash from a bank located in Lahori Muhalla when he was caught red-handed.

He further said that Abro has also confessed before them that he has lost Rs 1 million in gambling. Police are probing the matter.

However, sources claimed that Abro was arrested from a stamp vendor shop when he was getting prepared a fake car purchase agreement.
