Lone engineering college of Larkana running on ad-hoc basis

LARKANA: Quaid-e-Awam Engineering College, Larkana, has not yet been regularized despite passage of 10 long years due to which fate of about 300 employees is also hanging in the balance. The PC-4 of the project is pending for approval at the CM House and college has no proper budget.

The college is affiliated with Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering and Technology Nawabshah, which was inaugurated jointly by AsifZardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on October 29, 2009.

So far Rs2billion have been released by the federal government for the college, sources said, adding the Girls Degree College Larkana building was handed over to this college which is located on the Airport Road.

Forest Department land measuring about 200 acres near KhairMohammadAreeja village was also allocated for constructing the own building of this college.

As many as 225 male students and 25 female students are admitted in this college every year through entry test.

From the very beginning this college has been run on ad-hoc budget by the university but nobody knows where Rs2billion have gone as college has still no proper building and facilities.

For last few months 300 employees of the college are getting monthly salaries not on regular basis who include 200 low paid employees, 70 teachers and 16 professors.

This college is still lacking hostel accommodation facilities and for lodging & boarding of the students who reach here from different districts, various residences have been hired. Students presently live in the education department building which is about three kilometers away from the college.

Presently, some 950 students are getting education in this college where only four departments are working and the condition of their labs is very poor.

The university authorities have recently sent PC-4 of the college to the Sindh Chief Minister which is still pending approval. Principal of the college Niaz Ahmed Memon told newsmen that he and his colleagues have tried their best to get resolved the issues faced by the college. He said until and unless the PC-4 is approved problem for monthly disbursement of salaries will stay.

Director Finance FazalShaikh said that budget is approved by secretary universities at CM House which will soon be released. He said that college must have its own regular budget which should be released to it annually.

SajadJokhio, college employees welfare association leader, said that they got salary of November on 15th December and the salary of December is still awaited. He said that they will start a campaign and hold protests for regularizing the college from the 9th January.
