Mayor urges for awareness about heatstroke

Karachi: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar has asked the officers of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to make permanent arrangements in view of increase in temperature and threats of heatwave in the megacity.

He said as acute hot weather is expected during the month of Ramzan this time; therefore, comprehensive arrangements should be made in all hospitals and clinics, besides installation of dispensers for providing of filtered drinking water at public places.

He was presiding over a meeting in his office which was attended by the DMC East Chairman Moeed Anwer, Vice Chairman of DMC Korangi Syed Ahmer Ali, City Council Parliamentary leader Aslam Shah Afridi, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Asghar Abbas, Chairperson Medical Committee Naheed Fatima, Sr. Director Coordination Masood Alam, Municipal Commissioner East Akhtar Shaikh, Sr. Director Medical Services dr. Beerbal, vice of Karachi head Aamir Ghanchi and other officers.

Mayor said learning from the past experiences such arrangements and precautionary measures should be made that could save precious lives during heatwave in the megacity.  He also appealed to the K-Electric to avoid load shedding during the hot weather.

He said the persons affected with heat stroke should be immediately taken to the special wards established in the KMC hospitals for providing the first aid.

He urged the officers to create more awareness among people about heat stroke and its precautionary measures.

Akhtar said the director City Warden has been nominated as focal person for coordination with all civic organization in this connection.
