Middle school in Kambar non-functional since 22 years

LARKANA:A government middle school, built in Kambar-Shahdadkot district during Jam Sadiq’s Chief Ministership era in Sindh, has not yet been made functional due to utter negligence of education department.

The school is located in village Bago Junejo of Bair Union Council of Kambar taluka. It was constructed with the efforts of Jam’s adviser Noor Nabi Junejo with the sole purpose to educate the kids of the area but his dream is still unfulfilled. Jam was Sindh CM from 6th August 1990 to 15th March 1992.

Villagers, including Zuhaib Junejo, Irfan Junejo, and Mudasir Junejo said that village Bago Junejo is surrounded by several other villagers, so it had importance. They said that the school was made operational for four to five years, but later all teachers disappeared and the students were left uneducated.

They said those who were influential or had the sources started sending their kids to Kamber to get education but those poor whose children wanted to get literate were left behind because their parents were unable to bear travelling costs in this poverty-ridden era. They said that building was constructed in 1992 and the schools was made non-functional in 1996 onward.

They said that after its closure, thieves stole its windows, doors and entire furniture. They said even iron rods of DPC had been taken away by the thieves and relevant police had taken no action against the habitual criminals. They said that a landlord donated the costly land for the school but it was lying idle since past 22 years. They said that about 200 to 250 students of 6th to 8th classes were going to Kamber now daily which was located three-kilometers away to get education.

The Sindh government is running several programs to enhance enrollment of boys and girls into the schools but the ground realities proved that it was working in opposite direction. Out of 106 USAID schools, only 34 had yet been completed which were to be made operational two years before. The villagers urged the interim government to take stern action against negligent officers and make the school functional immediately after summer vacation after necessary repair and renovation.
