KARACHI:Investigation Officer (IO) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday informed Accountability Court that a reference against Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani over alleged buildup assets disproportionate to his sources of income is ready.
An Accountability Court conducted the hearing of a case against Sindh Assembly’s speaker who was brought to the court amid strict security. During the hearing, the NAB IO submitted a progress report and stated that NAB chairman had given a go-ahead to file a reference against Durrani. He sought some time from the court to binding of the reference.
He told the court that copies of the reference would be provided to the defense counsel. However, the court later adjourned the hearing till May 30 and sent the Speaker to prison on judicial remand until the next hearing.
The board, chaired by NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, allowed the reference against Durrani. According to the NAB, Durrani allegedly misused his authority and build up assets, causing a loss of more than Rs1 billion to the national exchequer. The NAB Karachi had arrested Durrani from a hotel in Islamabad in February this year.
