Islamabad: Center for International Strategic Studies (CISS) and Pakistan Institute of International Affairs (PIIA) is organizing one day seminar on “The Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy and Pakistan” on March 14. Director General International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mr. Yukiya Amano will be the key note speaker.
Amb Ali Sarwar Naqvi, Executive Director CISS and Dr. Masuma Hasan, Chairperson PIIA will jointly host the session.
Mr Yakiya Amano is visiting Pakistan after his re-election as Director General IAEA.
The aim of the seminar is to highlight the importance of nuclear energy for Pakistan’s economic development. Pakistan has conceptualized and developed an extensive programme for peaceful uses of nuclear energy, which offers great opportunities.
The seminar will examine the challenges and opportunities for Pakistan and suggest a way forward to meet its future energy requirements. The debate will draw attention of the international strategic community to the importance of nuclear energy for a developing country like Pakistan.
Director General Dr. Zafar Ali of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, CISS Senior Research Fellow Dr. Nadeem Salik, former Chairman PNRA, Jamshed Hashmi and Syed Mohammad Ali CISS Research Fellow will also address the seminar.
