Opinion Poll: (49% of Pakistanis say they learned how to recite the Holy Quran from a Qari at a mosque: Poll)

ISLAMABAD: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, nearly half (49%) of Pakistanis who know how to recite the Quran report having learned from a Qari at a mosque.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces who know how to read the Quran were asked, “From whom did you learn how to recite the Quran?”

In response to this question, 8% said from their parents, 36% referred to an aunt in their local community, 49% said from a Qari at a mosque, 2% referred to an Islamiat teacher, 4% said that someone came to their house to teach them, while 1% did not know or did not wish to respond.

The study was released by Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 978 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during November 19 – November 26, 2018.
