Karachi:Growing pollution is resulting in spread of skin diseases, and the Sindh Institute of Skin Diseases Karachi alone has recorded 472830 cases in past 7 months, said Justice Helpline President and KDA’s advisor on environment Nadeem A Shaikh.

Talking to PPI, he said majority of the recorded skin diseases cases is from megacity Karachi. He said pollution, especially water and air pollution, has become a grave threat for the Karachiites. He said if remedial steps are not taken on war-footing in the coming ten years this megacity would not be fit for human living.

He demanded for banning smoke-emitting public transport, and planting more and more trees. He asked for promoting urban forestry culture in Karachi. He suggested for extensive urban forestry on both side of Lyari Expressway over along with the Lyari Nadi stream. He said the same should be applied on the Malir Nadi and other rain-fed streams of Malir, Bin Qasim, Karachi West and Gadap towns. He said the KDA would soon launch an aggressive tree plantation drive in the megacity.
