Provincial Ombudsman appointment bill: SHC annoyed at petitioner for appearing without documents

KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday expressed annoyance at a citizen Sayed Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi who challenged newly introduced Establishment of the Office of the Ombudsman for the Province of Sindh (Amendment) Bill 2020.

A SHC bench refused to hear the petition before publishing of the bill. The bench lashed out at petitioner and remarked that you came without any document. The court also instructed him to produce a copy of bill. ‘’This petition in not maintainable until the bill is not published,’’ the bench remarked.

The court directed him to appear before it when the bill is published. The petitioner stated that the Sindh Assembly with mala fide intention introducted the bill on January 8 and then sent it to the governor to approve the amendments made in the Act of 1991.

The petitioner said that the salient features of the amendments are transferring the control of the ombudsman’s institution from the governor to the CM, including the appointment of the ombudsman by the province’s chief executive.

The petitioner stated that rights of governor were transferred to chief minister after making amendments in the bill. He said governor had also rejected the bill.
