Rangers, police claim busting gang of extortionists

KARACHI:Sindh Rangers and police on Saturday claimed to have busted a gang of extortionists by arresting five suspects in Orangi Town area of the metropolis as they were extracting bhatta from a trader Muhammad Islam Bashani.

According to Rangers spokesperson, the paramilitary force and police in a joint operation apprehended five extortionists on complaint of the trader.

The Rangers official disclosed identities of the arrested extortionists as Rehanuddin, Muhammad Abid, Muhammad Amir Mohammed Gibran Rabani, and Sikandar.

The spokesperson citing their crimes said Rehanuddin along with his accomplices committed jewelry in international cricketer Muhammad Sami’s house located on Jehangir Road on 1999.

He further said that the accused were also involved in different dacoities including, looting a cearing company in Tower area, Mehreen Group of Company, a barbershop in Dalmia area, Hamid Pakwan Center in Paposh Nagar during 2008 to 2018. Rehanuddin was said to be the gang leader and had been arrest in several time by police.

The Rangers seized arms, looted cash and chits of extortion, mobile phones, Sims from their possession. The arrested suspects were handed over to the police for further legal action.

The Rangers urged the citizens to inform them at nearby check post or Rangers Madadgar through phone, WhatsApp or email if any individual or group tried to extract money from them.

The paramilitary force promised that name of such complainant would be kept in secret.
