SAB wants check to import of substandard agro products

Karachi:The Sindh Abadgar Board (SAB) has appealed to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to urgently look into the affairs of Department of Plant Protection (DPP) under Ministry of National Food Security and Research, which he claimed were causing damage to agriculture and public health in the country.

In a press statement issued here on Friday, SAB President Abdul Majeed Nizamani claimed that the DPP had in checking and preventing import of such agricultural and edible commodities to Pakistan, which are harmful both to crops and public health. In this regard he citied example of import of soybean. He claimed that recently some import consignments brought to port in Karachi contained defective and infected soybeans having very low quality.

He also appealed to the Sindh Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister to take cognizance of the situation and set up a liaison with the federal authorities concerned so that due safety measures could be taken to safeguard the agricultural production of the province and protect human health.
