SC orders demolition of illegal constructions in Delhi, PNT, Punjab Colonies

KARACHI:The Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry on Friday ordered relevant authorities to bulldoze all illegal constructions in Karachi’s Delhi, PNT and Punjab Colonies.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed, heard a case pertaining to illegal encroachment and issued order for demolishing all illegal constructions in Delhi, PNT and Punjab Colonies, and Gizri roadside.

The bench asked who allowed constructions at a land allotted to the federal government officials for quarters. On which, the officials of Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) informed CJP that they had taken action against illegal constructions in the mentioned areas.

The CJP also said the attorney general should tell how those buildings had been constructed and who allowed the construction of nine storey buildings. “All these illegal buildings must be demolished,” CJP said.

The attorney general told the court that some of the builders had taken stay order from the court, so it is not possible for them to demolish illegal constructions as the matter is already in the court.

The CJP asked him to take immediate and strict action against illegal buildings and construct parks at the land of demolished buildings.
