Seminar in Larkana on gender inclusiveness

LARKANA: Women should participate in every sphere of life and it is necessity of time that they should also be encouraged to join police department so that they could serve the masses to the best of their abilities.

This was stated by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Abdullah Shaikh, while delivering keynote speech at a seminar organised at a local hotel by an NGO on “Gender Inclusiveness” here on Wednesday.

Shaikh said that their role will be very important in resolving issues faced by the ladies and common men. He said recruitment of ladies policemen has been given priority and 5% quota has also been reserved for them and separate cadre is also given to them in promotions. Shaikh said recently separate desks have been established for them on range, district and special police stations.

He said that on the directions of Sindh High Court, 22 rescue centers have been established in entire Larkana range and 31 desks have also been established on the recommendations of National Assembly’s Standing Committee for Human Rights where male cops have also been posted along with female policewomen.

He said separate complaint cells are also working in the offices of SSPs of five districts of Larkana Division and DIGP.

He said women police and their civilian counterparts play a very important role in maintaining peace and eradicating social evils from the society including preventing disputes.

Shaikh further said that women also play major part in the development of any country provided they are relied upon and proper facilities are given to them.

DIGP Shaikh further said that women police officers investigate cases in better and professional manner. He said Human Rights Cell is also working where people can lodge their complaints freely.
