KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari seeking security cover in view of reports regarding serious threats to him.
When a division bench started the hearing, it was informed that Akhtar Hussain, the lawyer representing Bilawal, could not be appeared owing to his other engagements. The court adjourned the hearing to a date to be announced later.
Earlier, Bilawal had submitted in his petition that being the chairman of PPP he had to travel throughout the country for not only organizing the PPP, but also for discharging public duties for the welfare and well-being of the people at large and despite the fact that there are serious life threats to him.
“A part from the fact that my mother, Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a public meeting in Rawalpindi, I always have apprehensions about my personal security as well as about the security of my family members as me, my family members and other PPP leaders were receiving threats to our lives and properties from extremists and terrorists organizations,” PPP chairman added in his petition.
Bilawal had submitted that the law and order situation in the entire country was precarious and it was also evident from various instances of attacks and attempts to the life on different important personalities and some of them have lost their lives.
Citing secretary of interior and provincial home secretary as the respondents, the petitioner prayed to the court to direct the federal and provincial governments and law enforcement agencies to provide round-the-clock security cover in view of reports regarding serious threats to him.
The court was further requested to direct the authorities concerned to allow the PPP chairman to travel in a vehicle with tinted glasses along with his personal security guards with licensed arms while traveling or addressing public meetings throughout the country.
