SHC extends bail of former Steel Mill MD, 17 others

KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday extended the bail of Pakistan Steel Mills’ former Managing Director (MD) Aftab Moeen, director finance Sameen Asghar and 16 others in a case of mega corruption case in the Pakistan Steel Mills.

A two-member bench of the SHC heard the plea seeking extension in bail and extended the bail after hearing arguments.

Shoukat Hayat, the counsel of the accused, told the court that accused have been appearing before the court since many years. He pleaded the court to extend the bail plea of his clients, because his clients had not misused their bail extension.

The state prosecutor told the court that the case of corruption in the Pakistan Steel Mills was handed over to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on the Supreme Court’s orders. He said that accused had got bail in Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA’s) case but they have to get another bail after the case was transferred to the NAB.

According to the NAB, material for steel mills was purchased from international market on very inflated rate and huge illegal benefits were given to dealers; as a result Pakistan steel mills suffered a hug loss.
