SHC seeks police high officials’ reply on death of under trial accused

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday sought comments from the additional inspector general Karachi and others on a petition filed against ‘extra judicial murder’ of an under trial accused in police’s custody.

A division bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, was hearing a petition assailing the police for allegedly killing a man namely Aslam in custody.

The lawyer representing the petitioner said that Aslam was subjected to torture at a cell established inside the Saudabad police station. He alleged that police personnel Basharat, Shahrukh and Rashid Khan had beaten up Aslam in the torture cell.

The court was further informed that Aslam was under trial and was not found involved in any criminal activity. The counsel added that Aslam was beaten so badly that he could not bear the injuries.

Issuing notices to additional inspector general Karachi and others high officials, the bench directed them to submit their respective replies by February 21.
