Sindh’s second polio happens in Larkana

KARACHI:Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) for Polio in Sindh on Tuesday confirmed that second polio case in Sindh province that happened in Larkana.

According to the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) for Polio in Sindh, it is highly unfortunate to announce that polio case was reported from Larkana. A 38-year old girl, Fiza, daughter of Nizamuddin, resident of UC Seehar area of Latifabad, Taluka Dokri, district Larkana UC has become the 2nd victim of polio in Sindh in 2019.

The girl had been vaccinated but was low on immunity besides being malnourished. This is why repeated vaccination of OPV is necessary for her while further investigation into the case was underway.

Coordinator EOC Sindh Umar Farooq Bullo said the total count in Sindh in 2019 is now two with one case from Karachi and other from Larkana. “Parents must understand that with the polio virus present in the environment, they must vaccinate every child under five years of age during every campaign to protect them against polio.”

Sindh had 30 cases of polio in 2014, one in 2018 and now the figure is two in 2019.
