Sports: Football: PFF officials meet FIFA, AFC Fact Finding committee

Karachi: Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President Ashfaq Shah and officials meet with FIFA and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) delegation, which is in Pakistan on a fact finding mission to resolve PFF issues.

The mission which was led by head of MA Governance FIFA Luca Nicola, Senior Manager MA Governance and Services FIFA Alexander Holt, Deputy Director Legal AFC Andrew Mercer and Senior MA Manager AFC Ponushotam Kettle.

PFF’s legal team had also presented them with evidence of wrongdoings on part of Faisal Saleh Hayat, who is running a parallel federation. FIFA still recognizes former PFF President Hayat as its incumbent president.

However, earlier this year fresh elections were held which was won by Ashfaq-led group under Supreme Court supervision. According to FIFA rules book, it was considered third party interference therefore not recognized.

But except few supporters of Hayat, the whole of football fraternity of Pakistan received it as a pleasant change since the game of football was suffering and falling into oblivion under Hayat. The football community has been expecting the new setup to deliver.

Anyone with an interest in Pakistan football could easily tell that the federation had not been working in the best interest of football and corrupt practices were evident under Faisal Saleh Hayat.

According to sources who attended the meeting, said that the delegation was impressed with the facts presented by PFF legal team comprising of Barrister Taha Ali and Advocate Chaudhry Zulfiqar.

The delegation members said that the evidence provided by the PFF legal team will be included in the report that would be submitted to FIFA, which has the power to take the final decision on PFF rift between the two factions.

PFF President said that the federation would wait for the FIFA decision before planning the future course of action.
