Sports: Football: Russia beat Poland to clinch 2nd Socca World Cup title

Karachi:Russia recorded a 3-2 victory against Poland after a thrilling encounter in the summit clash to clinch 2nd Socca World Cup title in Crete, Greece on Sunday.

Meanwhile, according to information made available here host Greece claimed third position after beating Moldova 2-1 in the third place play-off. Chief Executive Montreal Holdings Lord Shahzad Ali presented the winning trophy to Russia team captain.

The top officials of International Socca Federation (ISF) termed the second edition of the Socca World Cup as successful. They praised all the teams for playing professionally in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Pakistan socca team was also praised for making significant improvement. Pakistan gave tough time to former champion Germany in the group matches – only losing by a slender margin of 3-2.

Pakistan players also managed to score goals against three of the four Group ‘H’ teams. Pakistan team officials vow that the team would continue to perform better in every edition from the previous one.

It is worth mentioning that all other Group ‘H’ teams are well-known football playing nations.

Bobby Madley, an Ex-Premier League Referee, praised Pakistan for a good show in the tournament in spite of the fact that the country is little known in the football world.

“Pakistan is little known in the football world but here in this tournament, the team made its presence felt. They lost their match to Germany by a slender margin of 3-2, which could easily be a win for Pakistan. I congratulate the team for a good show,” he said.
