Sports: Judo: Qaisar Khan secures bronze medal in Asian Cadet Cup in Hong Kong

Karachi: Qaisar Khan lost his semifinal bout to World Number 8 Hungarian Judoka Zsombor Veg by half point in golden score before winning bronze medal fight against Iranian Bakhtiyari Abolfazl Shojaei in Asian Cadet Cup in Hong Kong.

Ranked 25th in the world in under 90kg weight category, Khan first defeated Malaysian Judoka Tze Ning Tan with full point.

In quarterfinal, Khan overpowered Chinese Taipei’s Judoka Sheng-Kai Lin, ranked 13 in the international circuit, with full point.

Secretary Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) Mansoor Ahmad said that the medal will not only improve Khan’s world ranking but also enhance the chances to qualify into Youth Olympics 2018.

Qaiser will leave Hong Kong on Sunday for Macau, where he will get training from July 16 to 19 and then he will participate in another Asian Cup Cadet from July 19 to 22.

The President PJF Colonel Junaid Alam praised Khan for his impressive performance and added that another good showing from the Judoka in Macau will help secure his berth in Youth Olympics 2018 judo event.
