SU Institute of English Language termed premier seat of learning

HYDERABAD: Institute of English Language and Literature has remained as the most prestigious and premier seat of learning at SU since its inception in 1953. The culturally-innovative and highly acclaiming way in which the IELL faculty and students have accorded me welcome humbles my heart in utter gratitude.

This was stated by VC-SU Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat in his remarks given at the opening ceremony of food and culture festival 2019 organized by Institute of English Language and Literature at its premises in which he was the chief guest. “Though, by its name, the festival is suggestive of culinary theme, yet latent in it is the wide open space for students to release their creative flair by coining title commensurate setting, subject-suited innovations, idea-inclined improvisations and an opportunity to unleash the slues gates of their accumulated emotional energy in a positive manner. These activities, in fact, serve for them as much- needed catharsis,” Dr. Burfat added.

The vice chancellor further said that the sort of given activities complemented students’ curricular engagement by accruing them opportunities in form of informal channels, first to discover their dormant abilities and skills and; next by outpouring their creative potential. Each of the 10 undergraduate classes of the institute were mandated to come up with one food and culture theme each and was to set up kiosk accordingly, integrating it to as most creatively as possible; to the aboriginal habitat of the tile as possible. This way, the stall themes featured in the festival included Rajistan, Thar Ja Zaiqa, Namaste, Railway Junction, Disco Café, Silent Society, Cubans and Horry Potter.

Hundreds of students from across almost all departments/institutes of the varsity visited the food and culture stalls, expressing keen interest in continental, inter-continental and global cuisine and cultural exhibits put on display; taking incessant selfies, soaking in the festive event environs; swaying and swooning to the fascinating beats of the culturally-and-soulfully loaded music playing loudly along the event sidelines.

Cornucopia of colors, rainbow smiles, full-blast festivities, endless array of camera flashes, taste bud tantalizations, folk dances, cultural costumes, free flow of affections and sweet serene socialization marked the festival memorial. The event drew to close by award of positions and appreciation shields to the 3 best stalls that were Rajistan, The Tastes from Thar and Namaste respectively.

The most striking aspect of the program was the culturally-customized reception accorded to the event chief guest SU vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat, by which he was made to board a buggy done, designed and embellished with heavy notes reflecting indigenous Sindh culture.

SU vice chancellor Dr. Burfat greatly appreciated the efforts of IELL Director Dr. Memon and event organizing committee comprising institute faculty Ms. Ishrat Ranjhani as convener and Ms. Nazish Memon, Ms. Fozia Chandio and Ms. Sumera Kashif as members.

Those who were present on the occasion included Institute Director Prof. Dr. Rafiq Ahmed Memon, SU-Syndicate member Asdullah Buledi, Director STAGS Sumera Umrani, Incharge Plantation Prof. Nabila Shah Jeelani, Media Cell Incharge and IELL senior faculty Dr. Ghulam Ali Buriro, Dr. Farida Panhwar, SU-ISO Cell Incharge Dr. Ameer Ali Abro, Dr. Arbeela Agha and others.
