KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar on Saturday said that youth should raise their voice for resolving problems of the megacity as their voice is considered stronger and energetic and could change our society.
He said this while addressing as chief guest to the Iqra Youth Parliament. Chancellor of Iqra University Anid Lakhani and vice chancellor were also present.
Mayor said that the city population is about three Crore but its resources are not sufficient to cater the needs of this megacity.
He said development work all over the world is done by municipal bodies but in our country this is done by MNAs and MPAs. All powers rest with the members of the assembly.
He said that the elections of local bodies were held on the directive of the Supreme Court but their powers and authority are still not given to them.
Akhtar said the sewerage water is treated in the world for reuse but we drain out all this water into the sea and pollute our beeches.
He said Karachi has no water, no sewerage system, no healthcare and public transport facilities.
Mayor said that they are still following the British made system in this country. We are giving money to China for collecting garbage whereas other countries are making energy from this garbage, he remarked.
