133 PSTs completing training deprived of salaries

LARKANA: The Initial Professional Development (IPD) training process of second batch of 133 newly recruited Primary School Teachers (PSTs) was completed at Government Elementary College (Male) here on Monday.

Each of them have been posted at various primary schools of the district to improve quality of education in Sindh. All the teachers have been appointed on merit through IBA Sukkur test conducted in September 2021 and were issued offer letters in April 2022, but since then, they are working without salaries at their place of posting since eight months.

They have also not been paid TA/DA for the training for which they are entitled and working without proper stationary. The purpose of the training of these teachers was to match the education standard with the world so that they can teach their students according to the needs of global educational institutions.

The role of the teacher has been changed from a traditional teacher to facilitator or a guide, a student said, because every student’s learning skills or the capabilities are changed or different as he has to teach the student according his/her capacity which will improve educational standard. They also will have to involve the students in group activities so that they may be able to enjoy learning education instead of beating them or forcing them to learn.

On the last day, Gul Sher Soomro, Director, Directorate of School Education (Primary) who is also holding the charge of District Education Officer (DEO), visited the training center and greatly appreciated learning process of the PSTs.

He said on the occasion that recently appointed PSTs are an asset for the entire education department and hoped that they will bring the change in the education system which is being criticized by some quarters. Soomro also visited displayed portfolios of the trainees and appreciated very much their learning knowledge at the training center being new.

Muhammad Nawaz Shaikh, Principal, Government Elementary College (Male) said that we have provided knowledge to the PSTs to the best of our abilities to cope up with the 21st century requirements through our IPD. He appreciated the working and learning skills of the PSTs who are expected to discharge their duties for the betterment of the society everywhere in the district provided they are extended required facilities at their schools.
