Need stressed to ensure tracking system in boats

KARACHI: There is need to ensure tracking system in boats of coastal fishermen amid monsoon. The development tasks in the coastal areas of districts of Thatta, Sujawal and Badin should also be completed.

This need was stressed at a briefing presided over by Caretaker Minister for Environment, Costal Development and Climate Change Jameel Yusuf at his office here on Thursday. He further added that concrete steps should be taken for friendly and conducive environment for the industrial boost and economic development of the country.

Secretary Environment Mukhtiar Ahmed Soomro said that there should be joint process of implementation of environmental laws. DG Coastal Development Authority Ishaq Mahar and Sheryar Qazi apprised the meeting about various development schemes including 50-acre palm oil production consisting of 979.575 million development schemes. They further briefed that work should be done with the help of domestic and private sector for more projects in coastal areas. Now there is a need for efficient communication and coordination in the coastal areas in the monsoon season.

Additional Director General Environment Naeem Mughal emphasized the cooperation of civil society and institutions on the various schemes and programs under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to improve the environment and industrial boost in the province. He further said that after the 18th amendment, the Industrial sector under SEPA Act was working to implement environmental laws.

IGP visits police headquarter Garden

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Amjad Javaid Saleemi on Thursday visited police headquarters Garden and reviewed administrative affairs.

On his arrival, a police contingent presented him the guard of honor. The Sindh police chief reviewed administrative affairs of the police headquarters and instructed SP Garden to take further necessary measures.

During the visit to the police hospital Garden, IGP also reviewed the various facilities of the hospital. He gave more necessary orders to the MS police hospital and sought a detailed report about the hospital affairs.

Additional IG retired Masood Mirza, head of the Police Museum, gave a detailed information about police museum gallery. In the meantime, IGP visited weapons store and checked available details of weapons and also gave necessary instructions.

Mayor donates Rs 1 lac for two dams

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar has termed as an historic judgment announced by the Chief Justice of Pakistan to build two dams – Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.

He said judgment was highly appreciable and Rs10 lac donated by Chief Justice to build the dam was also a historic step and the whole country should follow him.

Wasim said following the donation by Chief Justice of Pakistan, he had donated Rs one lac from personal account and KMC officers had donated Rs one lac for the dams.

Mayor said it was a good omen that provinces had no conflict in building of those dams as he quoted that council of common interest (CCI) had no issue on the construction of those dams. The acute water shortage in the country could cause drought and nations had been destroyed due to water scarcity .

He made an humble appeal to well to do people of Karachi to come forward and donate generously in the account nominated by Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Mayor urged philanthropists to come forward and give their due share for the construction of desalination plant as Karachi had given them a lot.

Mayor said it was unfortunate that billions of gallons of water was wasted.

Meeting discusses demands for new water connections

Karachi: Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Fazalur Rehman on Thursday held a joint meeting with Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) and Local Government Department, KWSB and SBCA here at the CM House.

The ABAD representatives told the acting chief minister that their more 400 NOC application for different projects had been pending with the KWSB for last many months.

However, KWSB MD Khalid Shaikh said that when water was not available in the system, how they could issue NOCs for new water connections. He added that the KWSB would start issuing NOCs when K-IV, a bulk water project, would be completed.

He also quoted a Supreme Court decision under which he could not issue NOCs until and unless more water is provided to Karachi. On this the acting chief minister directed the MD to get the court decision interpreted.

He also constituted a four-member committee, two from ABAD and one member each from KWSB and SBCA, to sit together and settle the issue and report back to him.

Tree plantation campaign to start from Saturday

KARACHI: Tree plantation campaign will start in District Central on Saturday.

DMC Central Chairman, Rehan Hashmi, along with Additional Director (Parks) Sharif Khan and other municipal officers, planted a sapling to kick off the campaign at a ground near APWA Girls College, Karimabad in Liaquatabad Zone.

At this moment, Hashmi said that plantation during rainy season would help the plants grow sooner. The matter that counts most in growing plants is the looking after and taking care of them after plantation. He added that in DMC Central, thousands of liters of treated water was being supplied to keep the plants green on daily basis.

DMC Central consists of a huge population of over two million, if only one person from a house plants one plant, it will help in growth of greenery and pleasant atmosphere in the city. He urged people of DMC central to keep a check and look after the trees.

On the other hand, storm-water drains cleaning is also going on, making the city cleaner. Hashmi requested the residents not to throw garbage in rain drains and put it at the right place.

Schedule for practical exams for left over candidates

KARACHI: Karachi University (KU) Controller of Examinations has notified that BSc Pass first and second years’ Chemistry annual practical examinations 2017 for left over candidates will be conducted from 9th July to 12 July, 2018 at department of Chemistry in KU.

The left over candidates are advised to deposit the fees of Rs 250 per practical through bank counters at Silver Jubilee gate of KU and bring payment slip along with original admit card, ID card and college cards on the concerned practical date.

Sports: Boxing: ROP organizes professional wrestling events next month

Karachi: International wrestling stars will be seen in action next month as the Ring of Pakistan (ROP) is organizes professional wrestling shows in Karachi and Islamabad.

This will be the second successive year when around 20 wrestlers will be entertaining the public of both the cities. Tiny Iron and Bram of England, Badshah Khan of France and Rebel, the female wrestler from the United States attended the launching ceremony in Karachi.

In Karachi, the event will be staged on August 29. This will be followed by the show in Islamabad on August 31.

ROP Director Imran Shah said that every effort will be made to make the event successful. “We will try our level best not to repeat the mistakes of the previous season,” Imran said.

Last year’s show was staged at a venue located at the KMC Sports Complex in Karachi but this time the organisers aim to stage it in a much better and commodious venue.

“If we don’t get any large venue then cricket or hockey stadiums could be used for the purpose as more public will be able to witness the fights,” Imran said.

The organisers said that this time the event would be more reachable for the public. “We are trying to keep the price of tickets fairly low this time,” Shah said.

To a query about the world’s heavyweight wrestler Goldberg of US, Shah said that effort will be made in future to bring in big stars like him.

Pakistani wrestler Badshah Khan, who lives in France, said that he was happy to be among his people again. “Last season we managed to bring in 20 to 25 wrestlers from around the world and this time again we are waiting impatiently for the second season,” Badshah said.

He said that in future effort would be made to also include Pakistani wrestlers in the competitions. “In future we want to make it 50-50. Not only will we try to entertain the people of Pakistan but will also like to give chance to the Pakistani wrestlers so that they could exhibit their skills at a major stage,” Badshah said.

Tiny Iron said that he was happy to be back in Pakistan. “I am happy to be here again following last year’s tremendous event. It was a wonderful, wonderful event,” Iron said.
