Sports: Tennis: Karachi Club National Seniors, Juniors Tennis begins Saturday

Karachi:The first edition of Karachi Club Open National Seniors and Juniors Tennis Championships commences here at Karachi Club tennis courts.

The events to be competed in the tournament, which carries national ranking points, for junior players are 18 Singles, Girls 18 Singles, Boys 14 Singles, Boys and Girls 10 Singles (with modified green dot balls). Seniors will be seen in action in 40 Plus Doubles and 60 Plus Doubles.

Meanwhile, Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles will also be organized which carries Sindh ranking points. The last date of entry is November 1.

The finals will be played on November 9.

Dr Fowzia meets political leaders in Parliament House

Karachi:Aafia Movement Pakistan (AMP) leader and noted neurophysician of Pakistan, Dr Fowzia Siddiqui, called on different political leaders in the Parliament House during her visit to the capital city.

As per details, Dr Fowzia reached Islamabad on two-day visit in connection with the ongoing drive of Aafia Movement Pakistan inside and outside the country to raise voice for early release of Aafia. During her visit to the Parliament House she met with different political leaders.

The leaders she met included the opposition leader in the National Assembly Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, ex-leader of opposition Syed Khursheed Shah, ex-ministers Khawaja Saeed Rafiq, Khawaja Muhammad Asif and others.

On these occasions, Dr Fowzia said that to provide legal assistance to Dr Aafia, and her repatriation to Pakistan were included in the election manifesto of the ruling PTI, as well as, its 100-days plan. She said the issue of release and repatriation of Aafia is not an ordinary matter but it is related to national honor and respect. She said the Parliament should also play its due role in this matter. She said the human rights activists and civil societies have also continued their efforts on the matter of Aafia outside Pakistan.

Dr Fowzia said during 15 years of the continuing detention of Aafia this is the fourth Pakistani parliament, and people have pinned a lot hopes on it. She said Aafia after her kidnapping along with her three minor children was kept in hidden jails in a forced disappearance for five long years. In the year 2008, due to the efforts of the UK reporter Ynonee Ridley the world knew about her al illegal detention. She along with the present prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan had raised a strong voice against the forced disappearance of Dr Aafia Siddiqui in a press conference in Lahore. She said during these ten years many opportunities for release of Aafia were missed by the rulers.

She said the release of Aafia is a joint responsibility of both government and opposition. She said the present opposition when it was in power did not discharge this responsibility. She said the opposition should now help the government for early reparation of Aafia. She said she has come to Islamabad to see that the government and opposition remember their responsibility.

Sports: Hockey: PHF announces 26 probables for World Cup

Karachi:Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on Wednesday announced names of 26 probables for the training camp for the forthcoming World Cup, which will be held in Bhubaneswar, India from October 28 to December 16.

The camp will be held from November 2 at the National Hockey Stadium in Lahore. The players are told to report to Hassan Sardar, Camp Commandant.

The probables are Imran Butt, Mazhar Abbas, Amjad Ali, Muhammad Irfan Senior, Rashid Mehmood, Muhammad Aleem Bilal, Ammad Shakeel Butt, Mubashar Ali, Tasawar Abbas, Muhammad Rizwan Senior, Muhammad Toseeq Arshad, Ali Shan, Muhammad Umar Bhutta, Abu Bakar Mahmood, Shafqat Rasool, Muhammad Azfar Yaqoob, Muhammad Arslan Qadir, Ajaz Ahmad, Muhammad Irfan Junior, Muhammad Zubair, Muhammad Rizwan Junior, Muhammad Dilber, Muhammad Atiq Arshad, Muhammad Faisal Qadir, Muhammad Atif Mushtaq and Saran Bin Qamar.

FUUAST announces exam schedule of BA private

KARACHI:Federal Urdu University of Arts Science and Technology (FUUAST) announced the annual examination date of private curriculum of BA.

According to the university spokesman, Rais Jafari B.A (Private) Part I, II exam will be started from 10 November 2018.Jafari said admit cards of all private candidates have been dispatched to their residential addresses who aspire to appear in the examination.

It further said in case, any candidates have not receive their admit card by November 5, they should collect it from November 6, from examination office in Gulshan-E-Iqbal campus.

Asia Bibi’s acquittal: religious party protests in various cities

KARACHI:Activists of the religious party took to the streets in various cities of the country on Wednesday after the Supreme Court verdict acquitting Asia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian woman sentenced to death over blasphemy.

In Karachi, the protests are also getting momentum where the workers of the religious party have blocked by burning tyres.

According to traffic police the road on Lyari Expressway from Karachi to Hyderabad were closed for traffic. Traffic was being diverted to Al-Asif Square towards Abul-Hassan Asfahani road. Tower road was closed for traffic, with diversions from Jinnah Bridge towards MT Khan Road, MA Jinnah Road towards Baba-e-Urdu Chowk, and II-Chundrigar Road towards University Centre. Star Gate and Numaish Chowrangi roads were also closed for traffic in the metropolis.

The protests in Punjab are being held by religious leaders despite the imposition of Section 144 in the province by the government. The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 barring the gathering of people in public places. Section 144 has been imposed across the province from October 31 to November 10.

In Islamabad, Red Zone has been sealed due to security concerns. The road from Rawal Dam roundabout to Red Zone has also been blocked by placing containers.

BIEK announces HSC Part-II Arts Private result

KARACHI:Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on Wednesday announced the results of HSC Part-II (Arts private) annual examination 2018.

According to Board Charmin Prof Inam Ahmed in annual examination of Arts private the female candidates clinched the top three positions; Tabesha Waseem daughter of Mirza Waseem secured the top position by bagging 878 marks out of 1100, while Sara Khan Zafar daughter of Muhammad Zafar Khan got the second position by bagging 845 marks. However, Kahnaida Arshad daughter of Arshad Ali secured third position by bagging 843 marks.

A total 10351 candidates was appeared in the examination out of them 3752 candidates passed it with a percentage of (36.25%).

One candidate got A-1 grade while 48 candidates secured A grade, 515 got B grade, 1441 C grade, 1580 D grade and 167 got E grade.
