(Country witnesses increase of 26% in remittances: PM)

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said the remittances have so far witnessed an increase of twenty six percent during this financial year.

In a tweet on Monday, he thanked the overseas Pakistanis for sending record remittances saying their love and commitment for Pakistan is unparalleled.

He said the overseas Pakistanis sent over two billion dollars for tenth straight months despite Covid-19, breaking all records. Meanwhile in a tweet, Finance Minister Hammad Azhar said the workers remittances have recorded an increase of forty-three percent in March compared to the same time last year.

(Pakistan wishes more economic linkages with Germany: FM)

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan wants to have more economic linkages with Germany for enhancement of bilateral trade and investment.

He was addressing a joint news conference with his German counterpart Heiko Maas after delegation level talks in Berlin on Monday. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said there are great opportunities for Germany to invest in Pakistan in various areas, including renewable energy, electric vehicles, information technology and tourism.

He said he has apprised his German counterpart about the shift in Pakistan’s policy from geo-politics to geo-economics, the government’s focus on economic diplomacy and the new incentives being offered to investors. Referring to the regional security situation, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said India will have to take the first step to create an enabling and conducive environment for talks with Pakistan after India’s action about Kashmir on August 5, 2019.

He said Pakistan wants to have peaceful relations with all the countries, including India. He said all issues can be resolved through dialogue. The Minister said the objectives of Pakistan and Germany about Afghanistan are identical. He said we want peace, stability and progress in Afghanistan. He said Germany has important role in stabilizing situation in Afghanistan. He said we will remain in touch on Afghan issue.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi thanked Germany for supporting Pakistan at FATF and also its support to grant EU GSP Plus status to Pakistan. He also thanked Germany for providing fifteen million anti-Covid-19 doses to Pakistan.

He said his visit is taking place when Pakistan and Germany are celebrating 70 years of their diplomatic relations, and its logo has also been made public. Speaking on the occasion, the German Foreign Minister said the two sides held constructive discussion on enhancing bilateral trade and investment. He said Pakistan is of great importance for Germany.

The German Foreign Minister said Pakistan has played great efforts for peaceful solution to the conflict in Afghanistan. He said any situation in Afghanistan influences intensively Pakistan.

(Govt pursuing economic diplomacy to attract investment: FM)

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said Pakistan has transformed its geographical political priorities into geographical economic priorities.

Speaking at the dinner hosted in his honor at the Pakistan House in Berlin, he said through economic diplomacy, the government is inviting world attention towards economic opportunities available in Pakistan.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan is an emerging market of two hundred and twenty million people where plenty of investment opportunities exist. He said the government is providing all possible facilities including E-Visa to foreign investors and we will welcome German entrepreneurs and companies to invest in Pakistan.

Earlier, the Foreign Minister had a meeting with Speaker of Christian Democratic Union of Germany Nils Schmid in Berlin and discussed European Union, CPEC and investment opportunities in Special Economic Zones.

In a tweet, the Foreign Minister said during the discussion, developments in South Asia and the key role being played by Pakistan in Afghanistan also came under discussion. The Foreign Minister also met CEO of Siemens Joe Kaeser and discussed areas of potential investment in power sector including alternate energy and transfer of technology.

(PTI Govt introduces another landmark reform of Pakistan Single Window Act 2021: PM)

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said PTI government has introduced another landmark reform of Pakistan Single Window Act 2021 that paves the way for ease in imports and exports.

In a tweet on Monday, he said Pakistan Single Window will bring 500 million dollars annual savings and reduce cargo clearance time from days to hours by integrating 75 regulatory departments, including customs, banks, port authorities, shipping companies and brokers.

The Prime Minister said an independent authority will manage the Pakistan Single Window, which will be pivotal in unlocking Pakistan’s potential to become a hub for international transit and trade.

(Attorney General briefs PM about important cases)

ISLAMABAD: Attorney General Khalid Javed called on Prime Minister Imran Khan here on Monday.

During the meeting, the Attorney General briefed the Prime Minister about the important cases.

The Prime Minister said that he has utmost respect for the higher judiciary. He said respect of the judiciary is utmost necessary irrespective of the decision taken either in favor or against and that is the way to strengthen democracy. The Prime Minister said that he is grateful to the judiciary for its guidance.

(Pakistani Peace and Human Rights Advocate I.A. Rehman passes away)

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Peace and Human Rights Advocate I.A Rehman passed away in Lahore on Monday. He was 90.

He was the founding chair of the Pakistan-India Peoples Forum for Peace and Democracy. President Dr Arif Alvi has expressed grief and sorrow over the death of journalist and human rights activist I.A. Rehman.

In his message, he commended the efforts of I.A. Rehman in the fields of journalism and human rights. He said his services will always be remembered. Praying for the departed soul, he also commiserated with the bereaved family.

(KP Govt devises largest relief package for Ramzan-ul-Mubarak)

ISLAMABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has devised the largest relief package for Ramzan-ul-Mubarak in the history of the province to facilitate masses.

This was stated by Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Kamran Bangash while addressing a ceremony in Peshawar on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra said the government has planned to provide subsidy of twenty billion rupees on flour to facilitate the public.

He said mobile utility stores will be opened across the province where people can buy necessary items on subsidized rates.
