Punjab Government will bear expenditures of treatment of Former Olympian Naveed Alam—Usman Buzdar

Lahore, July 10, 2021 (PPI-OT):Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has said that he is saddened over the news of the ailment of former hockey Olympian Naveed Alam and announced that expenditures of his treatment will be borne out by the Punjab government. Instructions have been issued to the concerned officials and Naveed Alam will be fully taken care of during the treatment, he added. Naveed Alam is a national hero who brought laurels home, he said. Pakistanis know how to honour their heroes and I pray to Allah Almighty to give complete health to Naveed Alam soon, he added.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation including recent updates on Afghan situation, facilitation of reconciliation process in Afghanistan and cooperation in various fields were discussed in detail. COAS appreciated the contributions and highly constructive role played by Qatar in facilitating and hosting Afghan Peace Process and hoped for continuous cooperation for ensuring regional peace and stability in the region. The visiting dignitary also appreciated Pakistan’s consistent efforts for peace and stability in the region and pledged to keep working for strengthening relations between the two countries.

British High Commission Meets Punjab Law Minister

Lahore, July 10, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Political Counsellor of British High Commission Islamabad, Ms Iona Thomas called on Minister for Law and Cooperatives Punjab Raja Basharat in the Punjab Assembly on Thursday. They discussed bilateral issues of mutual interest between the UK and the Punjab Government. Raja Basharat said on the occasion that the Punjab government was taking historic steps for the protection and development of minorities as significant increases had been made in the recent budget for churches and other minority worship places of worship in Punjab.

He said that Punjab government was ensuring implementation of all the points of FATF and had successfully handled high profile cases of terrorism by implementing federal policies against extremism and sectarianism to the maximum. Raja Basharat further said that the Punjab Assembly under the leadership of Chief Minister Usman Bazdar had enacted record legislation while centuries old laws were being updated as per the existing requirements. He said that the orders of the Supreme Court regarding local government would be followed.

The Law Minister said that successful measures had been taken against Corona pandemic in Punjab and the process of vaccination was also going on successfully. Ms Iona Thomas praised Pakistan’s efforts for FATF and said that the UK had pledged its full support to Pakistan in this regard. She paid homage to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and said that he always emphasized on the rights of minorities. Referring to the Hunza Valley, Ms Thomas said that Pakistan was rich in natural beauty and resources. She assured that the UK would continue to co-operate with Punjab against disease, illiteracy, terrorism, poverty alleviation and Covid-19 as per usual.

Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare Punjab Reviewed Daily Activities of COVID-19

Lahore, July 10, 2021 (PPI-OT):Secretary, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Punjab Sarah Aslam reviewed daily activities of COVID-19 across the Punjab. Province witnessed a gradual decrease in COVID-19 infection rate. Yesterday 167 new cases have been reported, bringing the total number of cases to 347,347. Until now 328,401 patients have fully recovered across the province while the number of active cases is 8،148.

During previous 24 hours, 1 more death had reported by COVID-19 in Lahore, while 7 more deaths have reported across the Province, bringing the total number of deaths to 10,798. Yesterday 17,180 test samples were taken while a total of 5,775,478 tests have been taken so far. Last day 60 cases were reported in Lahore, 56 in Rawalpindi, 14 in Multan, 10 in Faisalabad, 3 in Chakwal and 3 in Rahim Yar Khan, while Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Jhang, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha and Sialkot has reported 2 positive cases each and in Bahawalnagar, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Khanewal, Okara, Vehari and Toba Tek Singh reported 1 positive case each.

Yesterday, the average positivity ratio of COVID-19 was 1.0 in all the cities across the province. The provincial capital Lahore recorded a positivity ratio of 1.1, 1.1 in Faisalabad, 1.5 in Multan and 0.4 in Sialkot. In this regard Secretary P and SH Sarah Aslam said that Vaccines for COVID-19 are available in abundance at all the centres, so all citizens over the age of 18 must be vaccinated against the corona virus. People are also requested to take precautionary measures to protect themselves.

Farrukh appeals philanthropists to help Government for well-being of people
