Dil Ki Doori wider since Modi’s all-party meet: Gupkar

Srinagar, September 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Gupkar Alliance of six IIOJK political parties has said the dil ki doori [alienation] and disillusionment have only increased after the June 24 All Party Meeting (APM) convened and chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

The Alliance spokesman, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “We were there to bridge the gap between New Delhi and Srinagar, the dil ki doori as mentioned by the PM Modi. We had called for confidence-building measures like the release of political prisoners, creating an environment for political activities, removing restrictions on political workers and other sections of the public, including the media.”

He said the APM has failed to live up to the expectations it generated. He pointed out that New Delhi has not announced any confidence-building measures in the two months since the meeting and there have been no follow-up meetings or forward movement.

According to Tarigami, the lack of progress has added to the despair of the IIOJK residents and increased the Dil Ki Doori between JandK and New Delhi. “The disillusionment, hopelessness, and disappointments have increased and are on a higher side, now,” he said.

Indian police shift onus of overnight, besieged burial of Syed Ali Gilani on to sons

Srinagar, September 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, in a bid to shift blame of overnight and besieged burial of veteran Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Gilani, police have claimed that the relatives of the late Hurriyat leader resorted to anti-India activities including wrapping of his body in Pakistani flag, making loud sloganeering in favour of Pakistan and asking people to throng the Hyderpora residence of the deceased leader.

The police, in a series of Tweets, made ridicules claim that first both sons of Syed Ali Gilani agreed for overnight burial of their father; however, “after sometime they behaved differently, probably under the pressure from Pakistan” and resorted to anti-India activities.

“After death of SAS Gilani, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar along with SP and ASP met both of his sons at their residence at 11pm, condoled them and requested for burial in the night for larger interest of general public due to potential major LandO situations,” Kashmir zone police Tweeted.

Political analysts say that Indian police are now trying to shift onus for the forcible and besieged burial of the veteran leader, Syed Ali Gilani in the dead of night on to his relatives particularly his two sons to avert criticism over the mistreatment meted out to the dead body of the Hurriyat leader.

UN asked to hold India under Modi accountable for rights violations in IIOJK

Islamabad, September 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):Systematic human rights violations are being continuously committed with impunity by Indian troops in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. An analytical report released by Kashmir Media Service said that human rights violations have shown a massive increase in IIOJK since 5 August 2019. Several global rights groups have repeatedly raised alarm about worsening HR situation in IIOJK.

The report said that Modi regime’s 5 August 2019 actions are gross violations of the United Nations Security Council resolutions and Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) that affirms the right to life and to live in freedom and safety.

The report also cites the Article 13 of UDHR that describes the right to freedom of movement. Everyone has the right to travel around their own country. However, in the Valley of Kashmir, the Indian Government imposed a curfew on 5 August 2019, which still exists in different forms. In a curfew, the activity of a population is forcefully restricted and one’s right to freedom of movement is violated. When utterly unjustified, this violation of the people’s rights cannot be justified within the standards of universally accepted human rights, the report added.

Massacres, fake encounters, disappearances, extrajudicial killings, torture and molestations have become a routine in the occupied territory. The KMS report said that 428 innocent people have fallen to Indian bullets since 5 August 2019 to 31 Aug 2021 in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

As many as 95,861 Kashmiris have been killed from Jan 1989 to August 2021 in the territory, which clearly negates India’s claims to be the world’s largest democracy. The report urged the world community to help the besieged people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir to ascertain their political future as granted by the UN and hold Modi led India for rights violations in the territory.

Renowned Kashmiri Journalist Yousuf Jameel remembers Shaikh Tajammul

Srinagar, September 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):Srinagar-based seasoned journalist, Yousuf Jameel in a write-up refreshed his memories of veteran journalist, intellectual and the Executive Director of Kashmir Media Service, Shaikh Tajammul-ul-Islam, who passed away in Islamabad on Sunday night.

Yousuf Jameel wrote that after having failed to break his [Shaikh Tajammal’s] resolve or make him change his political ideology, the Indians wanted to get rid of him. “His decision to leave Kashmir for ever was seen by some of those at the helm as a ‘God-given opportunity’.”

This is the text of Yousuf Jameel’s write-up:

I covered Shaikh Tajammul-ul-Islam widely for the news organizations I was working for in early 1980s. He was the most active and powerful chief of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba, Jammu and Kashmir. In the picture here, captured by me with a Pentax MV1 I had just bought, he is seen addressing an impromptu rally beside a bookstall set up by the IJT at Srinagar’s Eidgah on the day of Eid.

One day I saw him inside the (old) JandK High Court complex where his father Sheikh Abdul Ahad was working as a petition-writer. After our shaking hands, he told me that he had, a few weeks earlier, come to see me at our home at Raze Kada’l in downtown Srinagar but was told by a neighbour that we had shifted to Illahi Bagh on the peripheries of the City sometime ago. Then revealing the purpose of his visit, and as the wisdom demanded, he said, “Woyn yi aasi, ti aasi, pansiye nish thaevzyv (whatever it may be like keep it to yourself now)”.

He said that he wanted to meet up to inquire about our neighbour and my professional colleague Manzoor Anjum and then quickly shared the ‘khosh khabar’ (good news). “My sister was engaged to him a few days ago,” he said. I congratulated him and requested him to convey my best wishes to his sister.

A couple of years later, Shaikh Tajammul-ul-Islam migrated to Pakistan via Nepal. I did a story on his hijrat and the apparent reason behind it-why he chose to give up his own land. My story also said that the authorities had learned through an intelligence agency about his plan to depart but they did not try to stop him, seemingly because they, after having failed to break his resolve or make him change his political ideology, wanted to get rid of him somehow. His decision to leave Kashmir for ever was seen by some of those at the helm as a ‘God-given opportunity’.

A few days later, Sheen Meem Ahmed Sahab who had worked closely with Shaikh Tajammul-ul-Islam in the IJT saw me entering Srinagar’s Central Telegraph Office (CTO). After initial exchange of pleasantries, he asked me, “Why have you done a story against Shaikh Sahab?” I was somewhat astonished at his query. I thought he was talking about Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah. I had not done any story on him in the recent past. He was actually referring to the story on Shaikh Tajammul-ul-Islam which had appeared in The Telegraph a couple of days ago. Ostensibly, he had misunderstood the line in my copy which had said ‘an intelligence agency knew about the Shaikh’s plan and had alerted the government about it, but the latter didn’t try to stop him.’
