BJP MLAs protest against room allotment for ‘Namaz’ in Jharkhand assembly

Ranchi, September 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):Ruckus by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over allotment of a room for offering namaz in Jharkhand assembly disrupted proceedings. Before the session began, BJP MLAs sat on the stairs at the entrance of the assembly chanting Hanuman Chalisa and ‘Hare Rama’ with placards.

As soon as the proceedings for the day began, the BJP members trooped into the well chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. They were demanding the recall of the order pertaining to allotment of the namaz room. Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahto urged relentless BJP members, including Bhanu Pratap Shahi, to return to their seats. “You are good members. Please cooperate with the Chair,” Mahato said.

However, as the ruckus continued, the speaker adjourned the House till 12.45 pm. The BJP workers on Sunday had burnt the effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the speaker during protests across the state against the decision. The speaker has allotted room number TW 348 for offering namaz, prompting protest from the BJP that demanded building of a temple and places of worship of other religions in the assembly premises.

Haryana suspends mobile internet in 5 districts ahead of farmers’ protest today

Chindigarh, September 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):Haryana government suspended mobile internet services in five districts of the state ahead of farmers’ protest today in Karnal, today. The mobile Internet service will remain suspended in Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind and Panipat districts with effect from 12 am to 11:59 pm on Tuesday.

Central forces were deployed, suspended and prohibitory orders banning gathering of people were imposed here on the eve of protest planned by farmers at the mini-secretariat over the August 28 baton-charge.

According to a Haryana police advisory, National Highway No 44 (Ambala-Delhi) may see some traffic disruptions in the district on Tuesday. “Therefore, the general public using NH-44 are advised to avoid journey through Karnal town or otherwise use alternate routes to go to their destination on September 7,” it said.

10 companies of central paramilitary forces, have been deployed in the district where local authorities have also imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC, officials said. Haryana BKU chief Gurnam Singh Chaduni said that they had given a deadline of September 6 to the administration to meet their demands.

He said a meeting with district administration officials was held here on Monday, but after failing to get any satisfactory response about their demands they decided to hold a big panchayat on Tuesday morning before proceeding to the mini-secretariat to besiege it.

“We will hold a peaceful protest, but if the administration stops us, then we will break barricades,” Chaduni told reporters here, adding that farmers have no plan to block the national highway.

An order issued by the Home Department stated that mobile Internet services (2G/3G/4G/CDMA/GPRS), SMS services, including bulk SMS (excluding banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services etc, except voice calling, will be suspended in Karnal “to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order”.

Another order was issued by the department in the evening for suspension of mobile Internet in the four adjoining districts. Earlier, the district administration issued prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC, banning the assembly of five or more people, and a traffic advisory with planned route diversions, the officials said.

In a late evening update, a Haryana police spokesperson said that in case need arises, planned route diversions on Delhi-Ambala national highway will be brought into effect from 9 am Tuesday, but until then traffic will ply normally.

Karnal Superintendent of Police Ganga Ram Punia said a total of 40 companies of security personnel, including 10 of Central Armed Police Forces, also comprising CRPF and BSF personnel, have been deployed. With additional force from neighbouring districts in place, five SP-rank officers and 25 DSP-rank officers will oversee security arrangements here, Punia said.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmer outfits protesting against the farm laws, had threatened to lay siege to the Karnal mini-secretariat on Tuesday if its demands were not met. The Haryana Police had lathicharged a group of farmers disrupting traffic movement on a national highway near here on August 28 while heading towards Karnal to protest against a BJP meeting. Over 10 protesters were injured.

The SKM had said a murder case should be registered against IAS officer Ayush Sinha who was caught on tape allegedly telling policemen to “break heads” of protesting farmers. Sinha, who was later transferred in a reshuffle also involving some other IAS officers, has now been posted as the additional secretary in the Citizen Resources Information Department.

Chaduni had earlier sought registration of a case against those involved in the baton-charge. He also demanded a compensation of Rs25 lakh and a government job for the family of a farmer who died after allegedly sustaining injuries in the baton-charge. However, the administration here claimed that the farmer was not injured in the police action but had died due to a heart attack.

Rise in Covid-19 cases in India: Expert explains the reasons and consequences

Mumbai, September 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):Ahead of the festive season, the Union Health Ministry warned people against lowering the guard against coronavirus. Last week, the ministry said people should celebrate festivals at home, follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and get vaccinated as and when their turn comes.

Amid the fear of the third wave that has already hit the other nations, the govt has stated that mass gatherings have to be discouraged during the festival season. “I don’t think it should be any surprise that India is seeing an increase in the number of cases of COVID 19 now. We are just following the global trend which has been true in countries that are a few months ahead of us in the pandemic,” Dr Sonam Solanki, Consultant Pulmonologist and Bronchoscopist, Masina Hospital, Mumbai said.

The financial capital of India has reported over 28 per cent of the total COVID-19 cases it had recorded in the entire month of August in the first six days of this month, as per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, Indian media reported.

“As public spaces like malls, restaurants and mass gatherings open up we will be going to see an increase in numbers eventually more ahead. While it is the governing body’s responsibility to ensure smooth and aggressive vaccination for the remaining citizen. it would be the responsibility of the citizens to ensure they are still careful with COVID friendly protocols as well,” Dr Sonam said.

She further added that isolation at the right time can help in curbing the numbers and the third wave need not be a crisis situation. “An increase in numbers does not mean an increased in hospitalization and death. If we isolate at the right time and make sure we do not carry this to others, numbers can still be curbed and the third wave need not be a crisis situation,” she said.

Earlier, Head of Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Dr Samiran Panda, said that the states which did not face an intense second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic are now with the increasing trend of COVID-19 cases, showing early signs of the third wave.

“Several states began imposing COVID-19 restrictions and increased vaccinations, learning from Delhi and Maharashtra. Due to this, the second wave in several states was not as intense, leaving scope for a third wave. Therefore, the increasing number of COVID-19 infections in some states presently is indicating the third wave,” Dr Samiran Panda said in an interview.

On Monday, India reported 38,948 new coronavirus cases taking the total tally to 3,30,27,621, while the death toll climbed to 4,40,752 with 219 fresh fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry. There are 4,04,874 active cases in the country.

Last rites of Gilani should have been allowed as per family’s wishes: Mehbooba

Srinagar, September 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti has said that treatment meted to the body of veteran Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Gilani was uncalled for, and said that one can fight with living person, but the dead body must not get indifferent treatment.

Talking to the media persons, Mehbooba said that the videos and news reports have shown that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were quite disappointed. She said that “you can fight with a person when he is alive, but once dead, you need to respect the body like others.”

Replying to a query about the cases filed against Gilani’s family for raising slogans and covering his body with Pakistani flag, she said that India is a biggest democratic country and these issues are not too little. “The government should have allowed the family to perform the last rites of Gilani as per their wishes,” she said.

Mehbooba added that she too had differences with Gilani, but the dead body must not get indifferent treatment, saying that “what we have seen was against humanity. Everybody’s last wishes are to be respected. The incident witnessed was against the cultural identity of India.” She also added that nobody can force anyone to love or hate any leader on the barrel of a gun.
