As per directions of Inspector General of Police Punjab, crackdown against criminals continues across the province 

Lahore, September 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):On the direction of Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan, crackdown against criminals is underway in all districts of the province. Actions against notorious criminals, illegal weapons and drugs has been intensified. In this regard, Dera Ghazi Khan Police under the leadership of District Police Officer Omar Saeed Malik, in the last 30 days, took emergency measures to arrest Criminals and achieved significant successes.

During the operation police teams performed high performance and arrested 55 notorious criminals involved in serious incidents like murder, robbery and looting out of which 46 were of a category and 9 proclaimed offenders were of B category. Dera Ghazi Khan Police also recovered stolen goods worth more than Rs 1.560 million.

In addition, heavy weapons including 04 guns, 02 rifles, 35 pistols, 01 revolver, 02 repeaters, 07 Kalashnikovs and 792 bullets were recovered from the possession of the accused. Police arrested 20 accused and 33.540 kg of hashish, 101 litres of liquor, 105 bottles of liquor and distillery were recovered from their possession.

Besides, 04 cases of Gambling Act were registered in different police stations and gambling amount around Rs 306780 were recovered. District Police Officer Dera Ghazi Khan Omar Saeed Malik said that the convenience of the citizens is being given priority during the operations against anti-social elements so that the sense of security among the people may be further enhanced.

He emphasized upon public that they should consider the police as their helper. Mr Malik vowed that crackdown on proclaimed offenders, robbers, drug dealers and dacoits would continue on daily basis to ensure supremacy of law and order.

E-pay system for payment of traffic challan launched in all over the Punjab 

Lahore, September 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):On the direction of Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan, steps are underway to improve traffic management issues. The scope of the E-Pay system has been extended to smaller districts of Punjab. In this regard, DIG Traffic Sohail Akhtar Sukhera said that the E-Pay system pilot project is successfully underway in major cities of Punjab and this system is also being implemented in remaining districts for convenience of citizens. The citizens are no more required to stand in long queues in front of banks for payment of challans and other fees.

Mr Sukhera told that this E-Pay system will enable citizens for online payment of traffic challan and payment of fee for Learning Driving License by Easy Paisa, online banking and ATM machine. While taking about overloading, Traffic Police Chief said that overloaded vehicles affect smooth flow of traffic and also cause dangerous accidents. In a special campaign started some days ago, around 1025 overloaded vehicles have been impounded in different police stations, Mr Sukhera added.

He said overloading and rash driving are not tolerable and indiscriminate actions would be taken in this regard. He also stressed upon submission of weekly progress reports to be sent to the traffic headquarters. He gave these directions while giving instructions to the officers during a meeting held at Traffic Headquarters today. Apart from overloading and anti-smog campaign, other departmental issues related to traffic management were discussed in detail in the meeting.

During the meeting, DIG Traffic Sohail Sukhera instructed all the traffic officers to expedite the special drive for awareness about traffic rules and especially to apply reflective stickers in slow moving vehicles which cause accidents. He further said that Punjab Traffic Police is a helping force for all the citizens on roads therefore all officers and officials should ensure smooth flow of traffic and win hearts of citizens with their positive and courteous behaviour. He moreover said that dutiful officers and officials should be encouraged at all levels and job shirkers, incompetent and corrupt persons have no place in the department.

HEC, LUMS hold consultation on national twinning of universities

Islamabad, September 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):The National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), HEC in collaboration with the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) organised a two-day consultative workshop on ‘National Twinning of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)’ at LUMS.

A large number of Vice Chancellors from across Pakistan attended the event and expressed their views on an innovative concept of ‘National Twinning of HEIs to increase teaching effectiveness of HEIs.’

Following its focused and highly engaged discussions, the forum brought about the first-ever national agenda on ‘National Twinning of HEIs’, where the Vice Chancellors agreed to collaborate in five significant areas.

These areas include: a pedagogy course for all PhD programmes; a national certificate of teaching required for new or junior faculty; a shadowing/mentoring exchange programme to work in a learning/teaching centre; development and delivery of exemplary online courses; and, capacity building of teaching and learning centres.

On the occasion, Rector NAHE Dr. Shaheen Sardar Ali and Vice Chancellor LUMS Dr. Arshad underlined the potential areas for collaboration under the concept of ‘National Twinning of HEIs’. Dr. Shaheen Sardar Ali elucidated the plan for conducting a series of NAHE collaborative conferences, wherein smaller group panel discussions will be hosted in all the provinces.

The discussions will focus on the themes, including Leadership Development, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and Pedagogical Partnerships, etc. The first of this series will be held in Islamabad in December 2021.

The consultative workshop was attended by Vice Chancellors from reputable national HEIs including Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Government College University Lahore (GCU), Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad, National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) Rawalpindi, Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi, Beacon house National University Lahore, University of Education Lahore, PAF-IAST Haripur, Aga Khan University and other universities.

Collection of Government receipts / duties/ taxes on 29th and 30th September, 2021

Karachi, September 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):In order to facilitate the collection of Government receipts / duties / taxes, it has been decided that the field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC) and authorized branches of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) will observe extended banking hours till 8:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. on 29th and 30th September, 2021 respectively.

Accordingly, NIFT has been advised to arrange a special clearing at 7:00 P.M. on 30th September, 2021 (Thursday) for same day clearing of payment instruments.

All banks are, therefore, advised to keep their concerned branches open on 30th September,
2021 {Thursday) till such time that is necessary to facilitate the special clearing for Government transactions by NIFT.

CM holds meeting to review jail reforms 

Lahore, September 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar chaired a meeting at his office to review progress on jail reforms. He approved to celebrate Rahmatul-lil-Alameen Week in jails. The CM will announce a prison package for jail officials and prisoners on the occasion of Rahmatul-lil-Alameen Week.

The meeting decided in principle to approve the phase-wise filling of vacant posts in jails and the CM directed to devise a fool proof mechanism for the provision of quality items for prisoners at canteens at fixed rates. The participants agreed in principle to allow prisoners to bring cushions, quilts etc from homes. The meeting was told that the installation of dish antennas/ cable facility has been started in prisoners’ barracks in the direction of CM Punjab.

The CM reiterated that protection of prisoners’ rights will be ensured and no one will be allowed any exploitation. The provision of suitable payments to prisoners working in jails be ensured; he said and directed to overcome the shortage of doctors, paramedics and medicines in jail hospitals for providing the best treatment facilities to the inmates.

The ambulance service be started to shift prisoners to hospitals in case of emergency and work be started on projects to shift jails on solar energy, concluded the CM. ACS(Home), PS to CM, IG Jail and others attended the meeting.

CM condoles death of the mother of senior PRO Muhammad Rafi Ullah 

Lahore, September 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has expressed a deep sense of sorrow over the death of the mother of Senior PRO in Chief Minister’s Office Muhammad Rafi Ullah, DG Performance Audit Dr Samiullah Tippu and Muhammad Ali Khalil and extended sympathies to the bereaved family. He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the heirs to bear the irreparable loss with equanimity.

Her funeral prayer was offered at Sabzazar which was largely attended by people from different walks of life including Secretary Information Raja Jahangir Anwar, officials of the CMO and DGPR offices as well as the journalist community. Quran Khawani and Dua will be held at Masjid Gulzar-e-Habib, E-Block, and Sabzazar at 3:00 pm today.
