Muslims help in cremation of Pandit neighbour in Budgam

Srinagar, September 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):Exemplifying the brotherhood and communal harmony which Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir is known for, people in Ompura area of Badgam district, performed the last rites of an 85-year-old Kashmiri Pandit neighbour, Jagan Nath Kaul.

As soon as the news regarding Kaul’s demise on Monday evening spread, people visited his house to extend condolences to the bereaved family. Kaul, known as a humble person, kept on living in the Kashmir Valley even after the mass exodus of Pandits from the region in 1989 following the conspiracy hatched by the then Governor of IIOJK, Jagmohan Malhotra, to suppress the Kashmiris’ freedom struggle.

“Kaul sahab’s family is among two Kashmiri Pandit families which did not migrate and continued to live with us. Irrespective of people’s faith, everyone in the area addressed Kaul sahab as Jag toath (Jag dear),” said Kaul’s neighbour Aijaz Ahmad Khan.

He said the entire area was in grief and the locals extended complete support in performing the last rites of late Kaul. “It is mostly Muslim population that helped in the last rites. That is because there are only two Pandit families living in this neighbourhood” he said.

Another local resident, Muhammad Yousuf said, “Late Kaul was quite social and would visit local Muslim residents. He would be equally a part of everyone’s grief and joy. His death is a big loss for all of us.”

It may be mentioned that Kaul, a resident of Ompura, was a popular figure in the area. He spent a lot of time in the company of his Muslim friends. As only a few of his family members were around, Kaul’s local friends and neighbours from the Muslim community took it upon themselves to help perform his last rites.

The local Muslims organised and performed his last rites and mourned his death as one of their own. They shouldered his coffin and arranged wood for the cremation in the area. Koul left behind his wife and two sons. His family thanked the locals for showing so much love and care to their family.

Navjot Singh Sidhu quits as Punjab Congress chief

New Delhi, September 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):Navjot Singh Sidhu has resigned as Punjab Congress chief, delivering a big shock to the Gandhis, who may have hoped that changing Chief Ministers would help end the turmoil in the state before elections early next year.

The cricketer-turned-politician tweeted a resignation letter that hinted at his unhappiness at the ongoing changes to the Punjab cabinet. “The collapse of a man’s character stems from the compromise corner.

I can never compromise on Punjab’s future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. I will continue to serve the Congress,” Navjot Sidhu, 57, wrote in his letter to Sonia Gandhi, which he posted on social media. He had taken charge of the party in Punjab in July, this year.

Navjot Sidhu, say sources, was also unhappy about his rival SS Randhawa being assigned a key ministry. The double use of the word “compromise” in Mr Sidhu’s resignation letter was read as a clue that he was asked to accept some unpleasant choices in the cabinet shuffle.

A family in Seer Jageer area of Tral in the district said that they were assaulted by the Indian Army on Monday evening. Mehbooba Mufti in a tweet said that during the thrashing, a woman received head injuries and was admitted to a hospital.

“Army from Yagwani camp in Tral ransacked homes and ruthlessly thrashed a family last night. The daughter owing to her serious injuries was admitted to hospital. Not the first time that civilians from this village have been beaten up by the army in this area,” Mehbooba Mufti tweeted.

The family said that their daughter Ishrat Jan was dragged while her clothes were torn before she fell unconscious and was later taken to hospital. While talking with the media, Ishrat said that the army personnel dragged her out of the house and tried to take her away in their vehicle.

Ishrat said that she raised a hue and cry after which villagers came out and saved her. She said Indian Army has been raiding their house frequently due to which they are feeling disturbed and insecure. Ishrat’s mother said that her one son was already languishing in jail for the last three months, while two others are being assaulted by the Indian forces again and again. The family demanded an end to such atrocities so that such an incident should not happen again.

BJP misleading IIOJK people on Article 370 abrogation: Prof Soz

Srinagar, September 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, former Indian minister and senior Congress leader, Prof Saifuddin Soz, has said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have resorted to spreading falsehood on Kashmir, especially on the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to the territory.

Prof Soz in a statement issued in Srinagar said the people of the territory, especially the Kashmir Valley, have taken notice of the fact that the BJP leaders in India have taken recourse to spreading untruth on the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution of India. He said these leaders, including Union Ministers Smriti Irani, Anurag Thakur and Jitendra Singh, perhaps feel that repeatedly speaking untruth could catch minds of Kashmiris and others.

The Congress leader said the fact is that the general run of Kashmiris denounces the statements of the BJP’s top brass that things had improved in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370. These are white lies spoken by the BJP leaders, he said. The fact is that there is widespread anger in IIOJK on the abrogation of this Article, he added.
