(Pakistan records 7,678 new COVID-19 infections in last 24 hours)

ISLAMABAD:Fifth wave of Coronavirus is taking toll all over Pakistan, as the country registered its highest number of daily COVID-19 cases 7,678 in the last 24 hours, up from 6,808, the second-highest daily toll, since the pandemic started in 2020, official figures showed Friday morning.

Previously, the highest daily toll was recorded on June 13, 2020, when the country reported 6,825 coronavirus cases, the National Command and Operation Centre’s (NCOC) data showed. According to the latest figures appeared on NCO’s’ National Coronavirus Dashboard, the positive cases were surged in Pakistan as during last 24 hours 7,678 new infections were reported along with 23 new deaths.

According to the NCOC, the country witnessed the highest number of positive cases during last 24 hours with the toll of 7,678 new cases that took the overall tally to 1,353,479. After 23 new deaths were reported in Pakistan the nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 29,065 on Friday morning.

As per the province-wise details of the NCOC, Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The NCOC reported that so far Pakistan has confirmed 1,353,479 positive cases out of which 516,874 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 458,879 in Punjab, 183,403 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 115,047 in Islamabad, 34,997 in Azad Kashmir, 33,812 in Balochistan and 10,467 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

Pakistan has so far conducted 24,415,716 coronavirus tests and 59,343 in the last 24 hours. 1,265,665 patients have recovered in the country, whereas 961 patients are in critical condition. The COVID-19 positivity ratio was recorded at 12.93 per cent. So far, 102,975,552 people have received their first dose of coronavirus vaccine including 286,593 in last 24 hours.

As many as 78,860,543 citizens have been fully vaccinated, while 470,601 received their second dose in last 24 hours. The number of total administered doses has reached to 170,711,868 with 786,027 in the last 24 hours.

Agencies claim arresting two alleged facilitators of Lahore blast

LAHORE:The law-enforcement agencies on Friday claimed to have arrested two alleged facilitators of the Lahore bomb blast. The security personnel arrested the two facilitators from the Ravi Road area of the city this morning.

According to sources, the arrested facilitators have now been shifted to an unknown place for further interrogation. The security personnel nabbed with the help of the CCTV footage obtained from the area.

Earlier, the investigators send the pictures of the alleged terrorists to NADRA for identification after completing the geo-fencing of the area. Furthermore, in an important development in Lahore’s Anarkali Bazaar bomb blast, the authorities managed to obtain CCTV footage of the alleged terrorists and their facilitators doing recce of the bazaar.

Fencing of 2680km area along Pak-Afghan border completes

ISLAMABAD:Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said fencing on 2680 kilometers of area along Pak-Afghan border has been completed while the remaining 20 kilometers will be completed soon.

Speaking on a point of order in the Upper House of the Parliament, Senate, on Friday, he said that we are also trying to complete fencing on two hundred kilometer remaining areas across Pak-Iran border. The minister said for durable peace we were engaged with TTP on different issues when the police constables of Shaheen Squad were attacked in Islamabad.

Condemning the Lahore blast, he said the investigation into the incident are underway and no one will be allowed to spoil the peace of the country. Sheikh Rashid also taunted that the opposition can conduct as many marches as they want and further suggested that Jamiat Ulema-Islam (JUI-F) Molana Fazl-ur-Rehman should consult with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and march together.

Three Ordinances were also laid before the House. These include; “the National Rehmatul-Lil-Aalameen Authority Ordinance, 2021”, “the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government Ordinance 2021” and the Pakistan Nursing Council (Emergency Management) Ordinance, 2021”.

Suspect in raping and killing woman arrested in Karachi

KARACHI:Police on Friday claimed to have arrested suspect allegedly involved in raping and killing a woman in Lyari area of Karachi.

Police said that the suspect was an electrician who had been arrested from Kalakot area in Lyari after the evidence collected from the crime scene. The suspect used to visit her home for repair works and on the day of the incident, he also visited her home for repairing a light. The electrician murdered the woman and later subjected her to rape and later fled from the scene, the police claimed.

Covid positivity rate in Karachi touches 46.58pc

KARACHI:Coronavirus positivity rate in provincial capital of Sindh, Karachi has risen to record level of 46.58 percent as country faces fifth wave of the deadly virus fueled by Omicron variant.

According to a report on Friday, 3739 new cases of coronavirus have surfaced in Karachi. The positivity ratio in Islamabad has been recorded as 18.91 percent while 6 percent was reported in Hyderabad.

Strict SOPs implemented in Balochistan to curb Covid

QUETTA:A surge in the coronavirus cases in Balochistan forced the provincial government to impose strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in which it was decided that indoor events will have a limit of 300 guests and outdoor events will not have more than 500 guests.

In the advisory passed by the provincial government, only 70 percent people will be allowed to sit in public transport. The Balochistan government has taken these strict measures to tackle the sudden hike in the coronavirus cases that has taken over the whole country. It merits mention here that Pakistan has reported 23 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 1,353,479. Sindh to build shelter homes for senior citizens

LAHORE:The Sindh government on Friday announced its plans to build shelter homes for senior citizens in 13 districts of the province.

All senior citizens with 60 years and above age group would be eligible for staying at the shelter homes where they will be provided with basic facilities.

The Sindh government has also allocated land for shelter homes in the 13 districts which are West, Korangi, Keamari, Hyderabad, Badin, Matiari, Naushero Feroz, Larkana, Qambar-Shahdatkot, Tando Allah Yar, Thatta and Umerkot. The construction work will start this June, however, the homes will be completed in 2023.
