LG polls in Karachi, Hyderabad to be held on Jan 15: ECP

ISLAMABAD: Announcing its reserved verdict, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday ruled that the local government (LG) elections in Karachi and Hyderabad will be held on January 15 as per schedule. The ECP dismissed the petition of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) challenging the ECP’s decision for the prospective use of two separate electoral rolls in the LG polls simultaneously. The ECP directed the authorities concerned to ensure that elections are held on time. The ECP held that the election will be held according to existing voter lists. Bus-truck crash kills seven killed near Qila Saifullah

Qila Saifullah: Seven people were killed and 10 others injured after a seeding bus collided with a mini truck in Qila Saifullah district on late Monday, rescuers and police said. Preliminary police investigations showed that the passenger bus was heading to Punjab when a head-on collision took place near Toruski. The dead and the injured were shifted to the DHQ hospital. Police have started an investigation into the case. A mourning atmosphere prevailed in the houses of victims.

Two missing Karachi girls found in Lahore: police

KARACHI: Two young girls who went missing from Karachi have been traced hundreds of miles away in Lahore, police said on Monday. Karachi police confirmed that the girls had been found in Lahore and a team of Karachi police would soon leave to bring them back home. They said the two girls, 14-year-old Kinza and her friend Naila, unhappy with their families left their homes as per their plan. Before fleeing their homes, they collected information about Lahore-bound different trains, the police added. Kinza’s father Muhammad Junaid told police that Naila came to their home and then the two friends went outside to play but did not return. The two friends study together in Government Millat School, he added. The father lodged a kidnapping case in Zaman Town Police Station.

Justice Shahid Karim of LHC reserved the verdict on the admissibility of the plea against the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly, after hearing initial arguments. The applicant in his plea made Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Imran Khan respondents and added that the majority of the members of the provincial assembly are against the dissolution of the assembly. Bannu police claims killing two accused involved in attack on police van

LAHORE: Bannu police on Monday claimed to have shot dead two accused involved in the attack on a police van in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district. As per police, the ‘encounter’ took place in Shamooni Khattak area of Bannu, where two accused wanted in Bannu police van attack opened fire on the cops. In a retaliatory fire, two ‘accused’ were killed. The identity of the killed could not be revealed as per initial reports. Utility Stores reduces ghee prices

KARACHI: The Utility Stores contrary to the increase in rates in markets have slashed the price of the premium-brand ghee by 12 rupees per kilogram, according to a report on Monday. Now one kilogram of ghee is available for Rs499 and five-kg carton at Rs2,525 at the Utility Stores in Karachi. For Utility Stores other than Karachi, the price of five-kilogram ghee carton is reduced by Rs50 and it is now available for Rs2,530.
