Raid on scrap warehouse in Khairpur, large quantity of illegal medical waste recovered

A major operation in Khairpur today exposed an illegal business where vast quantities of hazardous medical waste were being unlawfully recycled into low-quality plastic products, posing an extreme threat to public health, the environment, and overall safety. Assistant Commissioner Khairpur, Imama Solangi, and Assistant Mukhtiarkar Sheraz Hussain Phulpoto led the raid on the scrap warehouse, where used syringes, drips, and other infectious clinical waste were recovered.

Initial investigations revealed a blatant violation of the Sindh Environmental Protection Act 2014, leading to immediate legal action. Cases are being pursued against those involved, and steps have been initiated for the safe disposal of the seized hazardous material. This operation was carried out with the cooperation of the Environment, Revenue, and Police departments.

The Assistant Commissioner issued clear instructions that any individual or institution found involved in the unauthorized acquisition, distribution, or reprocessing of hospital waste would face severe legal consequences without discrimination.

Furthermore, all private and government hospitals, clinics, and laboratories are now mandated to dispose of medical waste according to established standard operating procedures. Concerned departments have been directed to regularly inspect scrap warehouses and take immediate action upon identifying any violations.

The Assistant Commissioner appealed to the public to inform authorities about elements endangering human lives, emphasizing that there would be no compromise on the protection of public welfare and environmental integrity. A zero-tolerance policy will be maintained against individuals involved in these illegal activities.
