Martyrs’ sacrifices will not go waste: APHC-AJK

Islamabad, January 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter, paying rich tributes to the martyrs of the Gaw Kadal tragedy, said their sacrifice will not go waste. APHC-AJK chapter Convener, Mahmood Ahmed Saghar, General Secretary Sheikh Abdul Mateen, Information Secretary Imtiaz Wani, Syed Faiz Naqasbandi, Syed Ejaz Rehmani, Sheikh Muhammad Yaqoob and Shamim Shawl in their separate statements issued in Islamabad said that the unprecedented sacrifices of the Kashmiri people would surely bring positive results.

They said that the Indian soldiers had martyred over fifty innocent Kashmiris by firing indiscriminately on the peaceful protesters in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir on January 21, 1990, and hundreds of people were injured. They were protesting against the molestation of several women by the Indian troops in the area.

The Hurriyat leaders said that India had occupied Jammu and Kashmir by force and had given a licence to its forces to kill the Kashmiri people. They deplored that Gaw Kadal, Aali Kadal, Bijbehara, Sopore and Handwara tragedies and many other massacres took place at the hands of Indian troops in the occupied territory, which are a stain on the so-called big democracy of India.

They said that it was the indifference of the international community that till now India had not been questioned about the tragedies and it is committing the worst kind of human rights violations in the occupied territory. The APHC-AJK leaders appealed to the United Nations and other international rights organizations to conduct an impartial investigation into the massacre of the Kashmiris in IIOJK and take strict action against Indian soldiers involved in war crimes.

Meanwhile, the Hurriyat leaders also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Major General (Retd) Sardar Anwar Khan and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.

BJP, RSS created atmosphere of fear, hatred in India: Rahul Gandhi

Pathankot, January 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and said that they have created an atmosphere of hatred, violence and fear in India. Addressing a rally in India’s Pathankot city on the last day of Bharat Jodo Yatra’s Punjab-leg, Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP was dividing people on the basis of religion, caste and languages instead of addressing actual issues like poverty, unemployment and inflation. “They create fear. All of their plans (policies) cause fear to someone or something,” he added.

He targeted the Modi government over the now-repealed three agricultural laws and said these created fear in the minds of farmers. He also targeted the government over the Agni path defence recruitment scheme, saying it has shattered the dreams of those aspiring to join the Indian armed forces.

Modi govt’s new draft IT rules a surreptitious assault on free speech: Congress

New Delhi, January 20, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Indian National Congress has termed as surreptitious assault on free speech the new amendments in the draft Information Technology (IT) Rules asking social media companies to take down news articles that have been deemed “fake” by the Indian government. The Congress’ head of media department Pawan Khera at a press conference at the party headquarters in New Delhi said that for the Narendra Modi government, IT rules stand for “image tailoring” rules. “Muzzling the Internet and censoring online content through PIB [Press Information Bureau] is the Modi government’s definition of ‘fact checking’,” he said.

“In an unprecedented move, which smacks of the Orwellian ‘Big Brother Syndrome’ – the Modi government has anointed itself to be the judge, jury and executioner of online content regulation” Khera said, adding the amendment essentially means that PIB’s fact-checking unit has become a judge in taking down content which might not suit the Modi government’s image. He also said that bulldozing the press is not new for the Modi government. “The popular term ‘godi media’ is now ingrained in the psyche of most Indians, and now this government wants to make it ‘godi social media’,” Khera maintained.

He said the Congress strongly condemns this “surreptitious assault on free speech and vile censorship”. “We demand that the new amendment in the Draft IT Rules be immediately withdrawn and that these rules be discussed threadbare in the forthcoming session of the Parliament,” he said.
