46 cases reported as Jhelum people falling victim to sandfly attacks

PESHAWAR:As many as 46 cases of sandfly bite have been reported in Jhelum district, authorities said Wednesday.

People in different areas of Pind Dadan Khan, a city in Jhelum district, have reportedly been falling victim to skin diseases in sand fly attacks. There are children too among the victims of the sand fly bite cases, the Health Department sources have said.

“Sand fly is found in areas where there are hills, forests and coal mines,” CEO Health Dr Akhtar said. “The sand fly cannot fly. It travels by jumping from one place to another,” he added.

“The body catches fever and then wounds appear after a sand fly bites,” he stated. “Two cases have been confirmed. The affected persons are being vaccinated. Fumigation is being carried out to eliminate the sand fly in the affected areas,” he added.
