50 SMIU students attend one-day training workshop

KARACHI:Students of Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) attended one-day training workshop on ‘Debating Democratic Devolution’ on Friday.

The day-long workshop was held at the Senate Hall situated in the main campus of the SMIU. A total of 50 students from different departments participated in the two sessions titled as ‘Political Session’ and ‘Communication Skills Session’.

The workshop in collaboration with the Hanns Seidel Foundation Pakistan (HSF-Pakistan) was organized by the SMIU with the support of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and the Senate of Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, SMIU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujeebuddin Sahrai Memon said that the HSF-Pakistan had played a very important role in different sectors, especially good governance.

Commenting on the importance of the training model Prof Memon said: “This will connect youth with the conventional political set up of the country.” He said that interaction with different universities and organizations will create scholarship opportunities to the students.

He advised the SMIU students to work hard to strengthen the democratic system. Renowned scholar and writer Jami Chandio and Sonal Dhanani attended the workshop as trainers while Lal Zaman of the HSF-Pakistan and others spoke on the occasion.

Prof Memon also appreciated the efforts Dr Ambreen Fazal, the chairperson of the Department of Media and Communication Studies, and the lecturer Hadia Khalil for conducting the training workshop.
