80% work of Sukkur Sports Complex completed: CM told

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah visited the Sukkur Sports Complex to inspect the ongoing development work.

According to a statement issued by Sindh CM House today, accompanied by Speaker Sindh Assembly Awais Qadir Shah, provincial ministers Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, and other senior officials, Mr Shah was briefed on the progress by Sports Minister Mohammad Bux Mahar and Sports Secretary Aleem Khan.

The chief minister was informed that 80 per cent of the construction work had been completed, with finishing touches currently in progress. The facility, designed to host both national and international events, includes provisions for cricket, football, squash, tennis, volleyball, and other sports.

Recalling the project’s origins, the CM noted that the project’s foundation stone was laid by former prime minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto on April 5, 1996, in the presence of Syed Khursheed Shah. Initially approved under the Pakistan Sports Board, Islamabad, the project was transferred to the Sindh government following the 18th Constitutional Amendment in 2021. The Sindh Planning and Development Department subsequently revised the scheme’s plans and approved its implementation.

Mr Shah said the sports complex would serve as a vital facility for athletes from Sukkur and other parts of Sindh. ‘This project underscores our commitment to promoting sports and ensuring world-class facilities for our players,’ he remarked.

The visit reflects the provincial government’s resolve to complete the long-delayed project and foster a culture of athletic excellence in the region.
