ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman held a meeting with Syed Murtaza Mahmud, Federal Minister for Industries and Production Division to discuss the progress on EV transition in Pakistan and hurdles faced by the producers.
According to a statement issued here on Wednesday, the meeting was attended by CEO EDB and people from the automobile industry. The Federal Minister was apprised on the issues that are causing delays in the initiation of EV production in the country.
The major issues include Registration of the vehicles, taxation challenges and development of EV charging infrastructure. Sherry Rehman said that we need to change consumer behavior by incentivizing ease of consumption. She said by targeting the 26 million two-wheelers annually produced in the country, we can encourage private transport sector on EV transitions. She said providing incentives to public transport will be the next phase.
Attendees from the automobile industry opined that the issues at hand, especially issuance of import and clearance certificate and registration of the EVs should be dealt with on priority basis. The Minister expressed full support and resolved to work together with Ministry of Industries and Production to chalk out workable plan and further action.
