The World Bank Implementation Support Mission expressed satisfaction over the completion of five roads spanning 44 kilometers in the district of Thatta.
These projects, executed by the Sindh Flood Emergency Rehabilitation Project with World Bank assistance, were finished in 16 months, ahead of the 18month timeline, PID reported today.
The roads inspected included connections from Baghan Jangisar to Jeety, Baghan Jangisar to Dargah Khair Shah, 105 Mori Shoro stop to Village Aslam Jatt, 105 Mori Mahar to Umer Arain, and 103 Mori to Village Khan Muhamad. These routes link to Gharo Keti Bander Road and N5, enhancing access to educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and markets in Thatta.
The mission praised the quality and pace of work, noting that 95% of the project was completed ahead of schedule. Remaining activities are expected to conclude in the coming weeks. The Support Mission included Mr. Bilal Khalid, Mr. Yusuf Munir, and Ms. Amna Memon, with Project Director Mr. Aslam Leghari providing insights during the visit.
Team members also toured the M.S Bund (Kot Almo) site and Loop Bunds in district Sujawal, where they learned about efforts to strengthen the embankment. These measures aim to protect agricultural lands and human settlements from floods, offering vital security to Sujawal”s population.
During site visits, the mission engaged with local communities who expressed gratitude for the World Bank”s assistance. Residents shared that the rehabilitated roads and fortified embankments have significantly improved their daily lives while safeguarding them from flood risks.
