Parliamentary body issues warning to PMDC, NHSR and C over failure to address critical issues

A parliamentary committee has issued a stern warning to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSR and C) over their failure to address critical issues impacting medical students and the healthcare sector.

The Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSR and C), chaired by Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani, convened at Parliament House to discuss urgent matters concerning the PMDC, medical education testing procedures, regulatory oversight, medicine procurement, and public health.

The committee voiced serious apprehension regarding the plight of students from Al-Nafees Medical College, whose academic futures remain uncertain due to administrative inaction. Members criticized the lack of coordination between the PMDC, universities, and the health ministry, emphasizing the detrimental effect on students” careers. The PMDC received a directive to convene a meeting with students and university officials within five days to achieve a merit-based resolution. Furthermore, the committee addressed the recognition of Pakistani graduates from a Kyrgyzstani medical college. The PMDC was instructed to immediately recognize all students enrolled during the college”s official registration period. The committee”s intervention underscores the growing concerns over educational and regulatory challenges within Pakistan”s healthcare system.
