Pakistan, World Bank Chart $40 Billion Development Course At UNGA

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and World Bank Group President Ajay Banga met at the 80th UN General Assembly, pledging to boost development collaboration with a landmark $40 billion partnership.

The Prime Minister commended Banga’s leadership in reshaping the World Bank into a more effective development institution, emphasizing private investment and operational efficiency. He acknowledged the bank’s assistance during the COVID-19 crisis and the 2022 floods.

Sharif outlined Pakistan’s reform program, including resource management, energy sector changes, privatization, and climate resilience measures. He stated these actions have stabilized the nation’s finances, restored investor trust, and established a base for inclusive expansion.

The Prime Minister welcomed the new Country Partnership Framework (2026-2035) and its substantial $40 billion commitment. He confirmed the government’s dedication to the CPF’s successful implementation, working closely with provincial authorities.

Banga praised Pakistan’s reforms and pledged continuing support for economic stability, climate resilience, and sustainable progress. Both leaders emphasized their commitment to collaborating under the CPF to advance Pakistan’s development goals and expand cooperation in key areas.
