Minorities Peoples Alliance Pakistan has proposed the establishment of a ‘Minority Ideological Council’

The Minorities Peoples Alliance Pakistan has proposed the establishment of a “Minority Ideological Council” to ensure the implementation of their religious, educational, and social rights in accordance with Articles 20, 21, 22, and 36 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

According to a statement issued by the Minorities Peoples Alliance Pakistan on Wednesday, the establishment of this council will usher in a new era of promoting religious tolerance, equality, and civil rights in Pakistan, which will strengthen national unity and the confidence of minorities.

The proposed council is envisioned as a permanent body, similar to the Council of Islamic Ideology, which will advise on government policies affecting minority interests. It will work to implement religious freedoms, remove discriminatory content from educational materials, provide legal support against forced conversions, and promote interfaith harmony. Furthermore, the council will ensure the protection of minority places of worship, guarantee equal political and employment opportunities, and ensure the preservation of cultural heritage.

In addition to these roles, the council plans to establish a grievance system to address cases of discriminatory behavior and provide legal assistance in matters concerning minority communities. It will also assist the government in fulfilling its international commitments under treaties such as the ICCPR and UNDRIP.

Unlike temporary commissions, this council is intended to be a permanent body, which will strengthen minority rights at a constitutional level. The Minorities Peoples Alliance believes that this development will pave the way for improving religious tolerance, equality, and civil rights in Pakistan, promoting national unity, and restoring the confidence of minority groups.
