Dr. Hafiz Muzzammel Rehman of Punjab University (PU) has been awarded the institution”s largest research grant for 2025, securing significant funding in a highly competitive national program that reviewed thousands of submissions from across Pakistan.

According to University of the Punjab’s information today, Dr. Rehman, an Assistant Professor at the university’s School of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, earned the prestigious funding under the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) National Research Program for Universities (NRPU). The HEC received a vast number of research proposals from public and private universities, approving only a very small fraction for financial support.

This accomplishment contributes to a major success for Punjab University, which had three of its proposed initiatives approved by the commission. In addition to securing the top grant at PU, Dr. Rehman will serve as the Principal Investigator on one of the approved projects and as a Collaborator on another.

Before his academic tenure at the university, Dr. Muzzammel also served as a Forensic Scientist at the Punjab Forensic Science Agency, bringing a diverse range of experience to his research.
