In a significant move to bolster Pakistan’s economy, the government has underscored the critical link between national GDP growth and the urgent implementation of energy-efficient technologies, directing key bodies to accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy solutions for both industrial and domestic sectors.
The new policy direction was emphasized during a meeting where the Chairman of the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) presented a series of advanced energy-saving models to the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production, Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan, according to a report on Wednesday.
A key solution presented was the use of building insulation to maintain optimal internal temperatures, a measure that can substantially contribute to energy conservation. The NTDC Chairman noted that “Energy Use Building Codes” have been introduced for this purpose, with implementation already underway following directives from the Federal Government.
Mr. Khan stressed that modern technology and sustainable power solutions are indispensable for the nation”s progress. He pointed out that insulation is an effective method to manage the sharp rise in energy demand experienced during summer months, ultimately helping to lower transmission costs.
‘Pakistan’s GDP growth is closely linked with energy costs,’ remarked Mr. Khan. ‘To enhance regional competitiveness, adopting sustainable energy practices in industries is the need of the hour.’
To ensure progress, the Special Assistant instructed the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to work in tandem with NTDC and furnish a comprehensive report on the execution of these energy-efficient models.
In a related development, a delegation from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) also met with the SAPM and extended an invitation for him to participate in the forthcoming Asia Transit Summit 2025.
